The Agnes Irwin School, a PreK-12th girls day school located in Bryn Mawr, PA, has an exciting opportunity for an innovative and collaborative teacher to join the Middle School History and Social Sciences Department beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. 


The ideal candidate:

  • Will embrace the Agnes Irwin School’s mission to empower each girl to learn, lead, and live a legacy and is committed to the ethos of girls’ education.  
  • Has skills designing and implementing project based learning and experiential curricula.
  • Demonstrates cultural competency and skills engaging with and learning from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Has a strong background in many areas of history, particularly African American History, Medieval History, and/or Global History.
  • Will foster the skills necessary for sophisticated and observant literacy, as well as the joy in learning that can sustain a lifelong love of reading 
  • Can develop writing instruction that combines the best of traditional methodologies with an innovative vision of writing in the 21st century.
  • Has interest and/or experience designing interdisciplinary curricula, particularly within the humanities.
  • Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team.
  • Is willing and eager to take on significant co-curricular responsibilities outside of the classroom (eg advising, coaching, club advisor, trip lead, etc), and who finds joy in working with middle and high school students.
  • Demonstrates a dedication to continuous growth and development in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and commits to our DEIB Philosophy at Agnes Irwin. 
  • Regards collaboration as an essential component of professional growth and values working on a team.
  • Is willing to engage across difference with empathy and understanding
  • Will immerse themselves in the life of the school and share their talents as a coach, advisor, chaperone, or club leader
  • Other duties include writing student reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; and attendance at meetings. 


Essential Functions:

  • Teach and manage students in four sections History in Middle and/or Upper School
    • Prepare course materials
    • Maintain student attendance and grade records
    • Evaluate and grade students' work
    • Be available to meet with students during office hours and planning periods
    • Create and maintain a caring, safe environment conducive to students doing their best work
  • Implement current curriculum and contribute to its ongoing development 
  • Participate in the life of the middle and/or upper school by serving as an advisor and/or club sponsor as necessary
  • Participate in all staff meetings, assemblies, and other required school functions, including occasional evening or weekend events
  • Work constructively with parents and colleagues
  • Inform parents and Division Director of students’ progress through written reports and conferences
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities, and participate in the faculty evaluation process
  • Assume other duties as assigned 


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in History or related field (advanced degree and previous teaching experience in a PK-12 setting preferred)
  • Proficiency in the use of classroom technology: interactive smart boards, LMS, various Google and Microsoft Office applications, etc
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and respect different values and viewpoints
