Job DescriptionJob DescriptionMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Providing overall program direction and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the outreach services.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:- Perform outreach activities to community-based organizations, individual groups, community agencies, local officials, and any other appropriate.
- Identify and complete initial contact with Veterans.
- Completion of an initial interview and assessment.
- Refer Veterans to appropriate services needed.
- Work with the Program Manager to develop Facebook and Twitter feeds, blog posts, and electronic media information.
- Supervise Peer Outreach workers.
- Facilitate referrals to VA and community support services.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the SSVF Program Manager.
· REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Team Player with good listening skills
- Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Must be able to interact with homeless Veterans, develop a trusting relationship, and have a solid understanding of the dynamics of homelessness.
- A car for visits to Veterans in their own homes or at other locations
- REQUIRED Valid New York State Driver's License and own insured Vehicle with 100/300 bodily injury liability insurance
- REQUIRED PPD WITH PROOF
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, including housing instability, poverty, mental illness, substance abuse, trauma, and legal barriers, as well as available resources and best practices for serving homeless individuals.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working with Veterans is a plus.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor from an accredited college or university in health or human service, plus 1-2 years' experience working with at-risk populations Or 5+ years' experience working with at-risk populations.
