The Material Buyer/Planner will manage material inventories and work closely with Operations to plan production schedules; with the objective of ensuring material resources are consistent with production schedules. The Material Buyer/Planner's responsibilities include creating and maintaining inventory schedules, determining material specifications, and placing purchase orders for materials and external vendor services. The Material Buyer/Planner, with their view of incoming customer orders and timing of material receipts, will work with Operations to adjust the overall production schedule, as required. The Material Buyer/Planner will communicate regularly with Inside Sales/Customer Service on production order status and lead times.

Essential Functions:

  • Determine the required materials and generate purchase orders. Schedule and oversee the supply and delivery of materials, products, and services.
  • Ensure materials meet specifications, quality standards, and are cost-efficient.
  • Ensure consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary for production, including minimum safety stock levels. Take follow-up actions in relation to material shortages.
  • Coordinate with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, supplier payments, etc.
  • Track production volume and monitor customer demand patterns and purchasing trends.
  • Liaise with the internal sales team, customers, suppliers, and distributors; develops and manages effective relationships with strategic suppliers.
  • Manage inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations.
  • Monitor the integrity of Bills of Material (BOM) and monthly inventory levels.
  • Evaluate and reduce other costs associated with material supply, including freight and customs.
  • Prepare cost estimates and performance reports.
Requirements:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED required. Degree in business, logistics, inventory management, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, purchasing, or a related position.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain management.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and material management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


Travel:

  • This position does not require travel.


Hours:

  • 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday with a one-hour unpaid lunch. On site.
