POSITION SUMMARYThe histology technician assumes responsibility for the daily routine operation of the lab; maintains equipment; prepares all tissue specimens for examination by the Pathologist, including grossing, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover-slipping. They have the ability to maintain quality control and check all work. This position is responsible for setting up the daily histology workload, accessioning into the Laboratory Information System, and ancillary lab duties.
What you will be doing
  • Assume responsibility for daily participation in the routine operation of the histology laboratory as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.
  • Assume timely and accurate responsibility for the accessioning, grossing, processing, embedding and cutting of all pathology specimens.
  • Assume responsibility for trouble shooting of equipment and ability to communicate problems to laboratory supervisor. Maintains daily records and maintenance and equipment logs when required. Checks all work for accuracy and quality.
  • Data entry for Vital Access Lab information system.
  • Conduct special stains and thin prep cytology protocols

What you will bring to the team
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a histotechnologist, working in a clinical laboratory, clinic, or doctor's office
  • ASCP certification (HT or HTL)
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, CAP and CLIA regulations
  • Knowledge of PPE and general laboratory safety regulations
  • Experience working with small tissue biopsies
