Job Description

The Apparel Products division at Avery Dennison is looking for a Sr. Project Manager to support the Innovation Enablement Office (IEO). You are the dynamic leader for cross functional teams who form and seek to deliver innovative product launches . You will report to the  Sr Manager of the Innovation Enablement Office, and you will bring your natural curiosity to a role that requires supporting, implementing and optimizing project management processes and tools which look to accelerate the commercialization process. Primary responsibility is gaining alignment to and then managing towards the scope, budget and requirements early on in the process. Tracking the overall  budget, developing and monitoring project schedules, formally capturing and mitigating risk, issues, and tracking key project milestones; adjusting project plans and/or resources where appropriate to meet deliverables. You are responsible for coordinating communication with all stakeholders and areas of the business impacted by the scope, budget, schedule and resources of the work effort being managed.

You will partner with different divisions within our organization to build and execute projects that align to cross category product line strategies. Key Stakeholders will be the Commercial, Product, and supporting functions, with whom you will collaborate and drive adherence to the commercialization process and deliverables. As a project expert you will strategically drive process and tool improvements. You are responsible for cultivating an atmosphere of teamwork and alignment between teams, stakeholders and functions. 

Activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Support and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously from initiation to closure. You will work  closely with the business ensuring alignment across global teams on scope, requirements,  plans, and deliverables. 

  • Exercise strategic thinking in prioritizing workload, as well as recognizing when proper escalation to leadership is needed. 

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities as an Individual contributor. This includes the ability to work with minimal supervision and using constructive influence to meet objectives and goals.  

  • Develop and own project schedules, project plans, directing and monitoring activities, identifying resource needs, risk management and change management with escalation as appropriate.

  • Not just manage but own the relationships with cross functional project team members and stakeholders, creating alignment and implementing risk and change management. 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all projects under your responsibility. 

  • Serve as the expert on the PPM ecosystem, assisting in the deployment, training and monitoring for  the expected levels of use while feeding back improvement opportunities to the Sr. Manager. 

  • Understand and create opportunities to apply industry leading project management methodologies to planning and execution of projects.

  • Collaborate with Sr Manager to champion ongoing  process improvement initiatives to implement best practices for effective delivery.

  • Become an evangelist for Ways of Thinking in addition to Ways of Working, imbedding the value delivery mindset over simply meeting project schedules. 

  • Strong competencies in verbal and written communication skills.

  • Understands the importance of team building, collaboration and negotiation

  • Detail oriented with project planning and monitoring, issue management and conflict resolution

  • Assist on special projects in support of the Sr Manager, as needed. 

Qualifications

  • 8+  years of project management experience with  large, complex projects that span cross-functionally.

  • Proven experience with project management tools and concepts. Examples include Jira, SmartSheet, MS Project. 

  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands

  • High emotional intelligence that translates into strong interpersonal skills that build and maintain effective relationships and teams. 

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. This will allow you to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization, including leadership. 

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and identify where we can improve.

  • BA or BS or equivalent experience is required.

  • PMP or PRINCE certification.

  • Continuous improvement mindset to drive efficiency. This could include experience in Lean Six Sigma or any SS Belt certification.
