The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic Ultrasound examinations to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients under the direction of a Radiologist for evaluation and treatment of injury or disease.
Typical Schedule
Monday thru Friday, daytime hours
Qualifications
- RMDS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) via ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography), required.
- Registered Vascular Technologist/Vascular Technology (RVT/VT) Certification within 180 days of employment via ARDMS or RVS (Registered Vascular Specialist) via CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International), required.
- Breast Certification (BR) via ARDMS required within 180 days of employment.
- OB Certification (OB/GYN) via ARDMS required within 180 days of employment.
- Current BLS, required.
Responsibilities include:
- Greets people in a friendly and warm manner. Always wearing identification badge and uses AIDET.
- Proactively meets customer expectations and concerns in an empathetic manner. Communicates any delays in service over 15 minutes.
- Obtains and communicates clinical information, medical history, clinician order requests, previous related studies to the radiologist and applies these factors to protocol selection.
- Handles equipment safely and performs their job in a safe manner abiding by manufacture recommendation and state/federal rules/regulations.
- Operates ultrasound equipment, selects technical parameters and performs correct patient positioning to obtain high quality images.
- Appropriate image labeling, orientation and annotations.
- Keeps work area in a safe, clean and stocked environment.
- Communicates and cooperates with peers and manager to create a productive and harmonious work environment.
- Attends 75% or more of staff meetings and takes responsibilities for the information contained within meeting minutes and huddle notes.
- Annually reviews and consistently follows hospital, department, safety, infection control and compliance policies and procedures.
- Willingness to perform additional duties on an as needed basis.
- EMR documentation/ charges are accurate to what was performed.
- Retains competency to serve all appropriate patient populations including patients of all ages, cultures, languages, literacy, learning needs and abilities. Performs job specific competencies in a culturally sensitive manner and meets the carrying needs of each patient and family members. Accepts and treats are people equally regardless of their beliefs or personal lifestyle.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the human body and ultrasound technology practices and procedures.
- Ability to accurately operate and maintain the imaging equipment and recognize the difference between normal and abnormal images.
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure while maintaining quality standards.
- Ability to use time efficiently.
- Skilled in both verbal and written communication.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with patients, family members and co-workers.
- Demonstrates sound judgement in handling issues with staff and members.
- Knowledge and understanding of computer systems including EMR, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrates awareness of organizational goals/strategic plan in all daily work environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality per policy.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team.
- Ability to solve problems efficiently.
- Demonstrates flexibility with schedule.
- Willingness and ability to perform additional duties on an as needed basis.
