Job Summary:

Provide direct technical assistance and support in the preparation of substation design, line design, and system planning studies. Projects may include: substation and line design drafting in AutoCAD and possibly Microstation, 3D AutoCAD with Inventor, preparation of planning maps in AutoCAD, development of exhibits and tables in Microsoft Word and Excel and other CAD related functions. Additional duties may include assistance with staking sheet development, Make Ready reviews, and support as well as GIS support.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide AutoCAD support for Utility Engineering design projects including substations and power lines.
  • Provide AutoCAD support on electric utility maps and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) that may be in AutoCAD software.
  • Work with various computer applications including AutoCAD, MS Excel and MS Word with the possible opportunity to use other software packages such as ESRI, Milsoft WindMil, and others.
  • Provide technical support on construction work plans, long-range plans, sectionalizing studies, environmental reports and other related studies.
  • Prepare and assist in preparation of cost estimates for power delivery, planning and design projects.
  • Electrical system modeling in power flow analysis software
  • Prepare and update electric system models.
  • Work with various computer applications including, ESRI, Milsoft WindMil, Microstation, and others
  • Provide line staking support with staking sheet development or data processing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Aided Design & Drafting, or other related technical program.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office Suite
  • 3D design capabilities with AutoCAD Inventor and/or other software
  • Two or more years of CAD/Engineering Technician experience preferred.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of utility power systems, electrical schematics, and other electrical drawings would be helpful but is not required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of applicable NEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards is highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to apply effective verbal and written communication skills when writing specifications, preparing technical reports, contributing to or leading project team discussions
  • Knowledge of Microstation would be a plus.
  • Ability to travel as needed (up to 5%) for team meetings, client consultations, site assessments, and construction inspections – occasional overnight travel may be required.
