Summary

The Assistant Medical Director is a clinician-leader in the Village Health Center who, in addition to providing direct patient care, collaboratively manages the clinician team through training, mentorship, and supervision. The Assistant Medical Director supports the Medical Director with directing, planning and coordinating all medical-related activities in the Village Health Center. The Assistant Medical Director possesses strong clinical skills, stays abreast of best practices in primary care, and contributes to a learning environment focused on safety, high-quality care provision, and continued quality improvement. In addition, the Assistant Medical Director participates in strategic planning, goal-setting, program development and/or enhancement and serves as a clinician voice in operational/administrative processes. The Assistant Medical Director collaboratively creates policies, procedures, and workflows; assuring the delivery of quality patient care while attending to the financial health of the VHC. As a clinician, the Assistant Medical Director provides quality health care to patients and maintains timely/accurate documentation of services rendered.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, supervision and retention of a highly skilled clinician workforce to ensure quality care is provided to patients.

    • Provides clinical oversight, consultation, training, supervision and mentoring to clinician staff, in collaboration with the Medical Director.
    • Contributes subject matter expertise on best practices in primary care.
    • Provides healthcare to patients in clinic and documents care in Electronic Health Record in accurate and timely manner.
      • Participates as a clinician-leader in research projects, risk management, quality assurance/improvement, and other processes to ensure safe, high-quality care is provided to patients.
      • Attends and participates in assigned operational and leadership meetings to support high-quality healthcare delivery and determine strategic priorities.
    • Reviews and assists with analysis of budgets for Health Center departments/programs to ensure financial stewardship and sustainability, as appropriate.
    • Collaboratively creates, edits, and maintains policies, procedures, and protocols that relate to clinical care.
    • Ensures compliance to federal, state, and local standards in terms of clinical and operational regulations.
    For emergency succession planning, the Assistant Medical Director serves as backup for the Medical Director and/or Chief Health Officer to ensure continuity of clinical services.
  • On-time completion of assigned training and policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine with a California license in good standing.

  • Current DEA license.

    • 8 years of experience as a Primary Care Physician with strong skills in providing continuity care for all age groups, preferred.
    • At least 3 years of leadership experience in any setting, preferred. Interest and experience in teaching and mentorship.
