Technical Writer

NARRATIVE JOB SUMMARY

Write and revise military technical manuals and training materials on advanced military equipment, in support of Aerostat programs. Must have ArborText and xml experience and have written to MIL standards.

Major Work Responsibilities

  • Write and revise technical manuals IAW MIL-STD-40051-2C using Arbortext software.
  • Complete form DA form 2028 and implement changes to TM.
  • Verify procedures and content of training presentations correspond to technical manuals.
  • Assist with management of policies and procedures for the operations of testing and training environments.
  • Help plan the efficient use of time and assets required to accomplish various assigned projects.
  • Confer with engineering, technical, manufacturing, or field support personnel.
  • Provide information to customers, supervisors, and co-workers by telephone, e‑mail, web-based meetings, and in person.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic format.
  • Evaluate Information to determine compliance with standards.

Supporting Work Responsibilities

  • Review engineering specifications and design review documents
  • Read engineering drawings.
  • Review Field Modification Procedures for implementation to TMs.
  • Review and evaluate previously existing training materials.
  • Ensure correct grammar, punctuation, voice, and spelling in all company correspondence as required by senior management.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

EXPECTED CORE COMPETENCIES

  • 5 years of technical writing experience is required.
  • General working knowledge of computers, computer systems, and office equipment to enable the effective execution of work is required.
  • Arbortext and XML format experience strongly preferred, but not required. Candidates without experience must be willing and able to learn.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word is required.
  • Proficiency with other Microsoft Office Suite products such as Power Point, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Project is required.
  • Working knowledge of graphics tools such as Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
  • Data Analysis experience is preferred.
  • Ability to consistently update skills and use relevant knowledge to keep up-to-date technically and apply it to your job.
  • Ability to use technical information in operation and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to use the latest information in the field of training techniques and technologies.

  • Lighter-Than-Air (LTA) Flight ­– Where applicable, knowledge of the basic principles of buoyancy and LTA flight, weather and its effects on LTA vehicles, and experience operating an LTA vehicle.
  • Communications and Media ­– Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods to include alternative ways to inform via written, oral, and visual media.
