Position Summary: Electricians in Training assemble and mount various electrical components and perform basic wiring functions on electrical equipment within E-houses, switch gear, capacitor banks, MCC houses, control centers, etc.

Essential Functions. Other duties as required.

Assembly

  • Under the direction of more experienced electrical technicians – follow and interpret technical assembly prints to wire and install electrical components, switch gears, electrical switches and electronic instruments and devices, such as programmable process controllers (PLCs), data loggers, relays, breakers and other electronic instrumentation equipment.
  • Position, align, or adjust work pieces or electrical parts to facilitate assembly and wiring.
  • Independently perform basic wiring functions.
  • Assemble and install cable tray, wiring racks, conduit, and electrical bus bar as required.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting duties as required.
  • Under direction of electrical technicians, diagnose causes of electrical or mechanical malfunction and make necessary adjustments.
  • Perform installations compliant with current electrical codes and regulations.
  • Responsible for assigned project completion, quality, and delivery according to work schedule.

Tools and Equipment

  • Safely use various hand tools – wire strippers, crimpers, drills and drivers, and utility knife.
  • Use overhead crane, forklift, hoists, and lifts to assist in electrical assembly and moving materials/project.
  • Properly care for and maintain tools in good operating condition; ensure tools and equipment is properly stored at the end of each shift.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED plus three months experience in a hands-on or production environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Aptitude to understand basic wiring schematics and layout diagrams.
  • Working Experience with various hand tools; crimpers, wire strippers, drills/drivers.
  • Highly self-motivated to learn new skillsets.
  • Capable of working in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Must be detailed oriented and committed to producing quality work.
  • Must be able to act professionally and get along with co-workers, supervisors, management, etc.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to obtain valid OSHA forklift and Overhead Crane certification.
  • Must comply with and follow all IE safety programs, policies and procedures.
  • Must operate and perform job duties in a safe manner. Must be able to operate/work safely around machinery/moving equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision, Color Vision, Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or smell.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit.
  • Must be able to perform frequent heavy lifting and continual bending and standing on a concrete floor.

Work Schedule: Must be able to work a 40-hour work week and additional time as required.
