We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Yard Safety Spotter / Load Checker to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 4201 Florin Perkins Rd in Sacramento and limited job-related travel may be required.


Position Summary:


GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Yard Safety Spotter / Load Checker to provide support to one or more facilities. This role’s main function will be monitoring the movement of customer and company vehicles, pedestrian traffic (both customers and workforce), and mobile yellow iron equipment in and around the tipping area of the facility, in addition to ensuring incoming loads are inspected and processed correctly.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Directs incoming and outgoing tipping area traffic in a safe and efficient manner according to established policies and procedures.
  • Flags and cues customers in line and directs them where and when to dump, gives vehicular back-up assistance to customers when applicable, watches for traffic hazards.
  • Uses established hand signals and traffic flag to indicate it is safe for pedestrian or vehicle movement in a certain direction
  • Uses a whistle when needed to stop / get the attention of a driver or pedestrian or to initiate an action. Utilize 2-way radios to communicate any observed hazards to equipment operators via radio (to include pedestrian or vehicle movement in the vicinity of yellow iron, debris which may cause damage or injury, etc.).
  • Directs vehicles to park at a safe distance from other vehicles.
  • Maintains safe space barrier in tipping area for all end-dump tractor / trailers.
  • Prevents scavenging of any kind from the tipping area.
  • Provides customer service, answers questions or directs to proper person.
  • Reports all hazardous materials to Supervisor for proper documentation and disposal.
  • Communicate with Supervisors / Managers regularly regarding hazards or safety concerns.
  • Provide fire watch duties throughout shift.
  • Inspect all incoming loads for prohibited wastes
  • Perform routine load checks and maintain load check documentation.
  • Segregate hazardous materials, electronic wastes, tires, carpet, appliances, etc. and place in appropriate locations
  • Coordinate with operations staff to keep operations area clean and organized (safe).
  • Communicate with scale house staff regarding any extra commodity or prohibited waste.

  • Assertiveness as necessary to manage situations as they occur.
  • Understand safety rules, operating procedures, and company policies.
  • Consistently build knowledge and expertise about current job function.

  • Communicate on a two-way radio or similar device.

Qualifications:

  • Valid ID to be employed in the U.S.
  • Ability to follow directions, daily procedures, and protocols.
  • Ability to distinguish between commodities.
  • Ability to work as a team and work well with others.


Language Skill:

  • Proficiency in English and/or Spanish



Physical Demands:

  • Able to work all day outdoors traversing rough and/or slippery ground during all weather conditions in an inherently dangerous work environment amongst heavy equipment and vehicular traffic.
  • Requires the ability to handle material up to 50lbs.

Work Environment:

Typical work week is Monday through Friday with occasional overtime. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work in setting with frequent changes in equipment, start/end times based on the operational needs for the day and or week.
