This is a summer 2024 internship in the Interconnection & Transmission team to support the continuing expansion of the company’s portfolio of wind, solar and energy storage development projects. Our intern will leverage their engineering, research, and organizational skills to identify issues and promote better approaches to common challenges facing utility-scale renewable projects. Amongst the challenges the Interconnection & Transmission team faces are:

  1. Regulatory changes to the New Generation Interconnection Study process
  2. Grid operators’ changing requirements for new generation resources
  3. Commercial options and regulatory hurdles for obtaining transmission capacity
  4. Defining and navigating the requirements of Independent System Operators (ISO’s), Transmission Owners (TO’s) and public sector utilities.

Key duties in your role will include the following:

  • Analyze the interconnection queues for trends that can be leveraged for existing and future projects.
  • Review ISO generation interconnection changes and proposals to judge impacts on company projects.
  • Support project managers to meet requirements for project readiness milestones.
  • Support process automation, process improvements, and documentation.
  • Support team members on department duties such as generation interconnection applications, modeling data, interconnection studies.

Requirements

The successful candidate’s background will look something like this:

  • Enrollment in a college degree program in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of the principles of power systems including load flow and transfer capabilities analyses.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and ideally exposure to power system simulation software.
  • Knowledge of data analytics.
  • Experience with ISO or transmission operations or transmission planning is preferred.
  • Interest in and passion for renewable energy.
  • Creative and resourceful approach to solving problems efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and with appropriate documentation and messaging.
  • Detail-oriented self-motivator with exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Timeline and Location

This position will begin on May 28, 2024.

Scout requires interns to be available to work at our Boulder-based office.
