Facilities Maintenance Worker

Summary Description

The Pine School is searching for an experienced maintenance worker to join our hard-working, selfless maintenance team in the support of the K -12 School’s Mission. The position requires a positive attitude, is full-time year-round with a comprehensive benefits package and is located on our beautiful 174 acre campus in Hobe Sound.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for organizing work orders through the School’s online work order management program. Coordinates and closes out work orders within the Facilities department (knowledge of espace a plus)
  • Plumbing, lighting and minor electrical repairs
  • Drywall repair, light carpentry
  • Setup and breakdown for events
  • Cleaning, janitorial and trash removal
  • Regular inspection of facilities doors, locks and ceiling tiles throughout the campus
  • Break coverage at the School’s front guard gate utilizing the Visitor Management program (knowledge of SchoolPass a plus)
  • Assist with projects and deep cleaning over School and summer breaks
  • Participate in all workplace safety training and comply with safety policies and procedures and utilize all safety equipment as required. Identifies and immediately mitigates any unsafe conditions/hazards and develops recommendations on how to remove/safeguard the hazard.
  • A CDL is a plus or willingness to acquire

Performance Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral communication)

  • Ability to learn to perform general building maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, electrical, and door hardware.
  • Knowledge of safe hand and power tool usage.

  • Ability to manage and perform work orders to meet customer satisfaction and Company requirements.
  • Ability to comply with Company policy, procedures and Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to identify and communicate situations/problems to Management.
  • Ability to portray a professional appearance and mannerism.
  • Ability to attend required training.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to work with a computer-based work order management system from a desktop computer and a hand-held device.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, man hoists or lifts and ability to repeatedly lift and carry heavy loads (up to 50lbs.)
  • Ability and willingness to work safely in all weather conditions and/or locales.

Technical Skills

  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • General mechanical aptitude.

Hours and Compensation

  • 40 hrs per week: Monday - Friday (7:30 am - 4:00 pm)
  • Hourly compensation commensurate with experience
  • School lunch provided daily on school days

School History

The Pine School was founded in 1969. The school was first called The Pine School under the leadership of Mr. Harold Potsdam, its founder. In 1975 the school changed its name to St. Michael’s School and a Board of Trustees were appointed. It was at this time that St. Michael’s became a non-profit day school with an Episcopal affiliation. In 1994, the Board of Trustees renamed the school St. Michael’s Independent School, ending the Episcopal affiliation, while retaining all of the same internal procedures and traditions. In July 2006, the school officially returned to its original name, The Pine School.

General Information

The Pine School is a college preparatory day school that serves students from Kindergarten through grade 12. The Pine School provides a strong traditional core curriculum while striving to instill high achievement and a lifelong love for learning. The school’s objective is to develop each student’s intellectual, physical, and creative talents in a supportive and moral environment. Students are encouraged to promote service above self and are inspired to develop a sense of commitment and involvement within their community.

In K-4, small class sizes and a challenging curriculum enable students to learn important academic skills in a nurturing and caring environment. The children become knowledgeable in computer technology and the multifaceted fine arts and physical education programs are an integral part of the curriculum. Expanding on the strong foundation of the K-4 program, the Middle School (grades 5-8) offers a rigorous academic curriculum that promotes intellectual discipline, self-discovery, and creative thinking. Strong emphasis continues to be placed on the core academic areas, fine arts, computer technology, and athletics. Middle School students are encouraged to be self-reliant, critical thinkers who are civically responsible.

Within the Upper School (grades 9-12), students are challenged to achieve academically, to exercise leadership, to participate in co-curricular activities that enhance their understanding of their own talents, to share their gifts with others, and to position themselves for success at the college or university level. In addition to academic requirements, graduation requirements include community service and a senior capstone project. Internships, opportunities for multicultural exchanges, encounters with entrepreneurs and critical thinkers, and seminars with artists and scientists advance the philosophy of the Upper School connects students with a wider world and prepares them for leadership positions.
