Position Summary

Provide high quality advocacy services through the 24/7 hotline managed by BWS and RCC. Job responsibilities include utilizing a trauma-informed approach when responding to survivors, co-survivors, and community members via phone and on-line based chat lines. Collect and disseminate client information and data for the BWS and RCC hotline services.

Job Description

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in communication, public relations, women’s studies, social work, criminal justice, psychology, or related field strongly preferred or at least one year experience working with survivors of trauma.
  • Victim advocacy training and/or experience preferred
  • Maintain valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations)

Role and Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency hotline calls and online chat option from survivors and co-survivors of sexual violence and intimate partner violence on behalf of BWS and RCC.
  • Respond to hotline calls from community members, professionals, police stations, and hospitals on behalf of BWS and RCC while collecting and disseminating appropriate information.
  • Utilize crisis intervention best practices including safety planning, trauma-informed care, brainstorming, and listening skills to provide compassionate support to all callers.
  • Coordinate accordingly with interagency staff for all hotline calls with high quality responses. Including but not limited to; shelter approval, case screening, emergency dispatch, and supervisor-on-call notification.
  • Complete minimum of 40-hour training in compliance with OAESV and ODVN best practices.
  • Support hotline callers with emotional support and provide accurate referrals to community services upon request.
  • Respond to hospital advocacy calls, as part of the on-call rotation.
  • Support fellow H&H hotline staff and provide quality assurance of service delivery as needed.
  • Attend supervision and staff meetings upon request of supervisor.
  • Assist with H&H data collection by completing accurate and timely documentation of hotline calls
  • Works cooperatively with other staff members and volunteers to ensure best practices in service delivery.
  • Always adheres to Service Excellence standards.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work environment: This position will be in a facility with victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. In addition to interaction with the survivors, the employee may have interactions with families of these individuals, the assailants and law enforcement.

Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with diverse populations.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel.
