Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Leader of System Validation for our Solid-State Drive (SSD) division. In this role, you will oversee the end-to-end validation process of SSD systems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and reliability. You will lead a team of engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive the validation strategy and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Management:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of validation engineers.
    • Define and implement validation strategies and methodologies.
    • Coordinate with product development, firmware, hardware, and QA teams to ensure comprehensive validation coverage.
  2. Validation Planning and Execution:

    • Develop detailed validation plans, including test cases, test scripts, and validation schedules.
    • Oversee the execution of system-level validation tests for SSD products.
    • Ensure thorough validation of SSD performance, endurance, compatibility, and reliability.
  3. Quality Assurance:

    • Establish and maintain validation metrics and KPIs.
    • Analyze validation results, identify issues, and drive corrective actions.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  4. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with design, firmware, hardware, and software teams to resolve validation issues.
    • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback from a validation perspective.
    • Communicate validation progress and issues to stakeholders and management.
  5. Continuous Improvement:

    • Stay updated with the latest advancements in SSD technology and validation techniques.
    • Implement process improvements to enhance validation efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the validation team.

 

  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of SSD technology, architecture, and industry standards.
    • Proficiency in validation methodologies, tools, and automation frameworks.
    • Experience with performance benchmarking, stress testing, and failure analysis.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with NVMe, SATA, and other storage protocols.
  • Knowledge of firmware and software development processes.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Perl, etc.) and automation tools.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in system validation, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York.  This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance.  Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
