Clinical Supervisor

Step Up on Second, a nationally recognized non-profit mental health and housing provider currently has opportunities for a Clinical Supervisor in its Staff Development Department.

Step Up embraces evidenced based practices of Wellness, Rehabilitation and Recovery, Housing First and Motivational Interviewing.

SUMMARY: The Clinical Supervisor is a member of the Staff Development Team, and will provide individual and group supervision to clinical staff, review and ensure chart compliance for Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) and Department of Mental Health (DMH) program staff, as assigned, and support the clinical compliance of all SUOS public and private grants and programs.  This position will work closely with the Director of Staff Development to ensure staff receive adequate and appropriate clinical training and supervision relevant to their specific job duties.

DUTIES: The following reflects essential functions for this job but does not restrict other tasks, which may be assigned.

Staff Development Support

  • Provides weekly individual supervision to master level license-eligible staff and group supervision, as assigned.
  • Attends team meetings and participates in case consultation, as needed.
  • Collaborates and meets regularly with Clinical Director and Program Managers to support supervisees’ clinical and professional development.
  • Assists Director of Staff Development in design and implementation of training curriculum, including onboarding and orientation activities.

Administrative Support

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of BBS licensing requirements and disseminate information to relevant staff.
  • Tracks individual and group supervision attendance and maintains necessary documentation for each session, according to BBS standards.

Quality Assurance

  • Supports Director of Quality Assurance with oversight of the clinical and technical accuracy of the clinical records, which may include staff trainings.
  • Performs chart review at regular intervals and other applicable QA activities as needed to ensure the treatment provided is consistent with the SUOS philosophy and meets the current standard for quality of care, medical necessity and other requirements as defined by each funder.

QUALIFICATIONS : Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California and registered with BBS, with at least 2 years post licensure and clinical supervision experience. Knowledge of and expertise in clinical quality assurance, clinical charting methods and clinical best practices. Preferred relevant knowledge specific to the Step Up client population ranging from Veterans, Homeless, Transitional Aged Youth, and persons with Severe Mental Illness. Knowledge of or experience with Recovery Oriented Care, Motivational interviewing, Trauma Informed Care, and the Housing First Model. Must be flexible, detailed oriented, and willing to take on special projects. Valid California Driver’s License and Car Insurance.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Work with people experiencing homelessness whether on the streets, in shelters or other places of habitation or services, may present inherent challenges and difficulties such as: exposure to bed bugs or other infestations, unpleasant smells or odors, individuals who may have poor hygiene or unclean homes due to homelessness, mental health symptoms, or poverty. Additionally, in working with our members, employees may encounter instances of profanity, sexually explicit or derogatory language, or verbal or physical expressions of anger and trauma. Very rarely do these situations ever escalate to physical contact, and negative or derogatory communication patterns can often be negotiated successfully. All direct care staff are provided adequate training to develop skills to deescalate crisis situations that may arise and Step Up has established procedural safeguards for all employees to mitigate (but not eliminate) these inherent risks of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Keyboard data entry required.
