Compensation: $28-38/hour 

Summary Description

The Head Track and Field Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Track and Field program. This includes coaching athletes, scheduling practices and meets, coordinating travel arrangements, maintaining appropriate web platforms for scheduling and scoring, and thorough communication with students, parents, and the athletic department. Additionally, the coach will handle other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or designee. Candidates for this position must demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of the student-athletes, ensuring they excel in both their studies and their sport.

 

Essential Functions and Specific Duties:  

  • Knowledge of track and field disciplines.
  • Ability to organize and lead daily practices.
  • Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in the area of sporting specialty.
  • Strong knowledge of CIF Track and Field rules.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning methods and techniques.
  • Communicate with student-athletes to understand their goals and ambitions.
  • Assess the strengths of individual athletes and teach them to use them effectively and improve their skills overall.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of student-athletes.
  • Keep records and documentation of and prepare appropriate reports.
  • Proactively support the athletics department and anticipate the needs of all constituencies.
  • Perform with a team approach and other duties as assigned.
  • Manage coaching staff.
  • Communicate all schedule changes to the athletic department promptly.
 

An Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • High school diploma required.  College degree preferred.
  • Required certifications:
  • AED/CPR/First Aid
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest 
  • NFHS Concussion Training
  • NFHS Heat Illness Training
  • At least 5 years of proven job experience as a coach or working with students 6-12 grades.
  • Knowledge of applicable team or individual rules.
  • Knowledge of strengthening and conditioning methods and techniques.
  • Ability to adhere to NFHS, CIF, and Coastal Conference, regulations and standards.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and aptitude for learning new technology.
  • Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in track and field.
