This part-time (19 hours/week) retail position provides the perfect opportunity to bring people to the world of the Festival, through friendly customer service, solid product knowledge and a caring attitude. The store is a revenue-generating source for the Festival as well as an essential part of the audience experience at OSF. The job is fun

Organizational Background

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) was founded in 1935 in Ashland, OR, and has grown from a three-day festival of two plays to a nationally renowned theatre arts organization that presents a rotating repertory season of up to 10 plays and musicals, including illuminating interpretations of Shakespeare, other enduring classics, and new works. OSF productions have been presented on Broadway, internationally, and at regional, community, and high school theatres across the country. OSF received the 1983 Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre and is one of the largest nonprofit theatres in the nation with three stages, including an outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

Associates must be outgoing, welcoming, confident and be able to oversee a store full of customers and volunteers. Duties include running cash registers, making change, selling merchandise by providing excellent customer service, knowing products thoroughly, restocking, and keeping the store neat and tidy at all times. The work requires an open, cheerful attitude, patience and the ability to deal professionally with everyone in pressured situations. With guidance of the gift shop manager, work to increase sales and minimize costs. Shifts require working during the days and evenings, primarily on Fridays, Saturdays and part of Sundays. Volunteers are an essential part of our success. Staff members train, supervise and assist volunteers. Employees enjoy working in a warm, mutually-supportive atmosphere.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

High school or earned a GED. Must have computer experience, know use of e-mail, and be proficient in making change. Must be able to learn to run a Point of Sale program on a cash register, count cash drawers and prepare bank deposits at the end of each day. Must be able to take direction.

Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge:

Associates should be comfortable with helping customers, and maintaining a calm demeanor in pressured situations. Previous experience with retail sales and using a point of sale program are a plus. Must be precise in working with cash and be detail-oriented. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to prioritize tasks.

Physical Ability: Must be able to bend and lift merchandise, carry cartons on hand trucks or move trolleys full of product the distance of half a block to the store. Must be able to stand through entire 5-6 hour shift.

Hours Requirements: 19 hours per week, broken into 4-6 hour shifts days and nights. Primary working days are Friday, Saturday and Sundays.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills: Experience in retail sales or other guest services. Interest in theater.
