Summary

Trinity Lutheran School is looking for a Christian kindergarten teacher.

Duties

TEACHER
It is important to realize that teaching is the primary task of teachers. Other tasks, although
important, are not to be so time consuming that they detract from the effectiveness of teaching.
Teachers have or are working towards certification by the State of Colorado.
Personal Responsibilities:
1. Evidences a lifestyle that reflects a growing relationship with Christ.
2. Uses correct language, is tactful, courteous, an effective listener, warm, and uses correct
written forms.
3. Dresses appropriately and professionally using the student dress code to determine
proper attire. Short skirts, low-cut tops, shorts, and flip flops are not permitted. (Shorts
can be worn on field trips and other offsite activities.) Tattoos must be kept covered. Body
piercings other than earrings must be removed. Hair must be kept neat and appropriate.
4. Is able to clearly articulate the objectives of a Lutheran school, attend and participate in
church activities, and demonstrate a love for teaching children.
Supervision of Children:
1. Serve as a kind role model to students.
2. Communicate effectively with students at all levels, using appropriate tone.
3. Obtain written permission from the parent or guardian before removing any child from
church property for any reason.
4. Ensure that whenever possible, there are a minimum of two students present during any
activity involving the teacher and students. If not possible, classroom doors will always
remain open.
5. Have a clear understanding of where their students are at all times, assigning a “buddy”
to each student to help facilitate a head count.
6. Be familiar with parents and other individuals who are authorized to pick up students.
Administrative Responsibilities:
1. Implement policies adopted by the congregation and the Board.
2. Prepare or assist with special school programs, religious services, projects, and extra-
curricular activities which are assigned as duties.
3. Provide proposed expenditures to the principal prior to the annual budget preparation.
Educational Responsibilities:
1. Communicate effectively with students, commending and reinforcing good conduct and
achievement of students.
2. Be effective and fair in classroom control.
3. Use wholesome motivational techniques.
4. Have written lesson plans, giving a copy to the principal each week.
5. Keep the classroom appearance interesting, stimulating, neat and pleasant.
6. Relate instruction to the Christian objectives of the school.
7. Arrange the classroom so that optimum learning can take place.
8. Maintain adequate records of student attendance and achievement.
9. Execute the standardized testing program; record, study, and utilize the results.
10. Handle clerical work involved in scheduling field trips and visits by students.
11. Evaluate and update curriculum on a regular basis.
12. Be continually prepared so optimum instruction can take place.
13. Be accountable to the principal.

14. Inform parents of their child’s progress by issuing daily, weekly, monthly, or mid-quarter
reports. Quarterly report cards are issued on days agreed to by faculty members and the
Board as listed on the school calendar
15. Keep principal informed of problems or potential problems involving students and/or
parents.
16. Provide suitable activities for growth in the following areas:

a. Physical: To help the child grow in bodily development of large and fine motor
skills and perceptual skills.
b. Social: To help the child understand his role in living with peers and adults.
c. Emotional: To help the child to live confidently as a child of God.
d. Cognitive: To help the child discover, communicate, be creative, and broaden
his general knowledge.
e. Spiritual: To respond in faith and love to others; to gain a greater knowledge of
God’s Word.

17. Be alert to special needs that a child may have; visual, auditory, perceptual, etc., and, if
needed, request a screening of the child from the principal and parents.
18. Communicate frequently with parents to inform them of their child’s progress or special
needs.
Other School Responsibilities:
1. Be responsible for playground, corridor, lunchroom, lobby, and detention supervision, as
assigned.
2. Attend all faculty meetings, unless excused by the principal.
3. Attend all parent – teacher meetings, unless excused by the principal.
4. Attend school-related programs and events and help when asked to do so.
5. Attend all teachers’ conferences, unless excused by the principal.
6. Work with room mothers for special parties and field trips.
Lobby Duty:
The teacher on Lobby Duty will:
1. A.M. Duty:
a. Attend morning devotions
b. Supervise the students in the Fellowship Hall after devotions until the children are
dismissed to their classrooms.
2. P.M. Duty:
a. Supervise the students until they are picked up.
b. Lock all doors. (check the outside handle on entrances)
c. Turn off lights in Main School Entrance and switches.
d. Turn off lights in Alumni Hall and area by the Early Learning Center.
e. Visually check the Playground for balls and jump rolls.
f. Check Playground and Library doors, making sure they are locked.
g. Turn off the copier and coffee pots.
h. Lock Copier Room door.
i. Turn off lights in the Restrooms and the Kitchen.
j. Check all double glass doors by the church FROM THE OUTSIDE to make sure they
are locked.
k. Close and lock the fire doors (by the kitchen and the secretary’s office).

Requirements

Supervision of Children:
1. Is concerned that each class is meeting its objectives.
2. Is concerned that each child is achieving progress at a rate commensurate with the child’s
abilities.
3. Serves and friend and advisor to students.
4. Communicates effectively with students at all levels.
5. Is effective and fair in handling pupil discipline problems.
6. Is responsible for adherence to standards of behavior which have been adopted by the school.
7. Makes arrangements for the testing of students before they have been accepted into the
school.
8. Contacts outside agencies to provide remedial help for students.
9. Provides for an effective guidance program for students.
10. Is responsible for the admission, transfer, promotion, acceleration, demotion, suspension or
expulsion of students from the school using policies adopted by the Board.
11. Is responsible for playground, corridor, gymnasium, lunchroom and other supervision, even
though he may delegate the actual responsibility.
