Union - Truck Driver

Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Truck Driver ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The Truck Driver will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
The general purpose of the Truck Driver will be responsible for safe and timely delivery of good or other articles to our customers. The Truck Driver will be responsible for maintaining the trucks and trailers that are assigned to them.
- Hauling freight to pre-determined destinations.
- Utilize load schedules to determine the proper load in on the trailer, while ensuring the load is secure and in proper condition.
- Weight and stage trailers as needed.
- Learn how to use and maintain driver logs.
- Check all load related documentation for accuracy and that it is completed correctly.
- Pre and post run inspections of equipment.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations or damage to the vehicles.
- When not on a driving assignment, perform production assignment as needed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above, all positions are also responsible for:
- Performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local standards and regulations.
- Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding safety and standards of workplace behavior, in completing job duties and assignments
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience, class “A” CDL, clean driving record, and a federal medical card.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardizations exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
Physical Demands refers to the level and/or duration of physical exertion generally required to perform occupational takes (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing and pulling).
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel, talk and hear. Perform repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders and upper body. The employee if regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance. On occasion the employee may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste and smell.
The employee must frequently lift up 10 to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to we or humid conditions (non-weather), work in high, precarious places, and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in typically loud in this work environment. Hearing protection is required.
Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
