Job Title: ANIMAL CARETAKER

Classification: PART-TIME / NON-EXEMPT
Reports To: FOUNDERS


GENERAL SUMMARY:

This part-time position will care for the horses, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys and cows living at The Gentle Barn, a farmed animal sanctuary. This highly sought after and meaningful position is waiting for the perfect candidate who loves working with animals along with a small team of other like minded people.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure animals are properly fed, provided fresh water and a clean living environment (fresh hay, straw, shavings and mucking out stalls)

  • Monitor health and well-being of animals, including weight, veterinary care, medications and bandages

  • Prepare and provide fresh, organic produce for the animals daily

  • Provide specialty care to animals with additional needs

  • Oversee daily medications including the storage, stocking and distribution of such medications

  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the entire facility through dusting, pressure washing and wiping down of equipment on regular basis

  • Utilize the gator to pick up and clean poop throughout the animals pastures and paddocks


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Gentle and kind person who cares deeply for animals

  • Vegan or Vegetarian lifestyle a plus

  • Must be highly trainable and eager to learn

  • Must be comfortable being around large animals

  • Must be available to work varying hours based on the needs of the business including weekends

  • Prior experience training and caring for various animals a plus

  • Training in veterinary assisting or veterinary technician a plus

  • Experience pulling trailers a plus

  • Must be punctual and ready to work at established time
