Overall Position Summary and Objectives:
This position provides independent support to the operational objectives of NCI/DCEG by assisting in research, project management, data analysis, and communication of scientific programs.
Minimum Education:
Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Social/Biological Science, or related fields.
Skills (Ranked By Priority):
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Good understanding of medical terminology.
Software Proficiency:
- MS Office Suite
- Experience with statistical software for analyzing epidemiologic data, including SAS, STATA, or R
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Evaluation:
- Research and evaluate the operation of the organization's scientific programs.
- Conduct literature searches in PubMed, Web of Science, and other information sources; manage references using bibliographic software.
- Research, interpret, and summarize background materials from a variety of scientific sources.
Project Management:
- Work with staff on existing projects and/or initiate new project initiatives.
- Organize and maintain project documentation and communications; track project progress using project management tools.
- Track action items and tasks, provide deadline reminders to program staff; maintain spreadsheets of relevant information.
Communication and Documentation:
- Prepare scientific and programmatic presentation materials such as tables, graphs, slides, abstracts, posters, and overheads.
- Analyze and develop presentations consisting of data from progress reports.
- Prepare presentation materials such as handouts, meeting materials, slide presentations, and background/supplemental documents.
Meeting Coordination:
- Plan, organize, and participate in technical meetings and consultations.
- Coordinate and plan scientific meetings, including communications with distinguished lecturers, invited guests, and participants, registration, and meeting logistics.
- Ensure that all aspects of the programs are tracked and reported, key milestones and deliverable dates are known and adhered to, and communication is maintained.
Scientific Analysis and Reporting:
- Perform statistical analysis, including data management (cleaning, creating new variables, etc.), descriptive statistics, linear regression, and regression analyses.
- Develop and implement new scientific programs to fulfil organizational goals and objectives.
- Create and maintain clinical databases and prepare reports of data analysis for presentation.
Logistical Support:
- Attend meetings, training, and conferences in support of program initiatives.
- Assist with technical writing, including co-authoring articles for journal submission and writing professional services agreements and statements of work.
Additional Duties:
- Work with staff on planning and implementation of cancer epidemiology projects.
- Download and merge several public use data sets; perform data cleaning and data transformation.
- Research and review literature to retrieve targeted clinical or scientific information.
- Use EndNote for bibliography management.
- Assist in formatting articles for journal submission.
- Prepare materials and communications for study IRB approvals.
- Coordinate with contractors on setting up contracts for laboratory work and provide analytic results using standard statistical procedures.
- Participate in meetings and conference calls with PIs, contractors, and collaborators, including taking and posting minutes on web-portals.
