Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Mathematics and Physics at Manhattan College seeks a committed teacher-scholar for a full-time position in Mathematics at the Visiting Assistant Professor rank, beginning with the Fall 2024 semester. The contract term is for one year, beginning August 2024, with the possibility of renewal. The Department offers mathematics courses to all Schools in the College, and the course schedule is likely to include calculus courses for students in STEM majors, as well as service courses for students in other disciplines. Upper level courses may also be available. The teaching load is twenty-four credits per year, which is equivalent to 6 - 8 courses.
Key Responsibilities:
• Teach 24 credits of Mathematics (6 - 8 courses) per academic year.
• Serve as Course Coordinator for one or more lower-level multi-section course(s).
• Engage in other Departmental service activities.
• Contribute to the intellectual life of the Department via shared engagement in professional development and/or scholarly activities.
Reports to: Department Chair
Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences. A candidate holding a Master’s Degree and having significant teaching experience will also be considered, but would be appointed at the rank of Visiting Instructor.
• Experience as the instructor of record for a college level mathematics course.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of Mathematics.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Salary Range: $69,000 to $72,000
