Summary

River Branch Community School is seeking a full time infant teacher to forge trusting relationships with children and their families.

RBCS strives to provide a safe and nurturing educational environment where children are free to take risks, to wonder and to form meaningful relationships with peers, teachers and the natural environment. Our interactions with children are based on the belief that even young children are competent, intelligent and inquisitive beings. Through play and hands-on investigations, we guide each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. We view the environment as the third teacher and spend our days exploring our own 2.5 acres of natural meadow and forest as well as nearby community fields, trails and streams.

Duties

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the teacher will plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum and child centered program within a team environment. Curriculum follows RBCS program philosophy and the standards of RBCS in conjunction with State Regulations, VELS , Vermont STARS guidelines for early childhood programs.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children birth through 18 months, strong communication and organizational skills and a collaborative approach to early childhood education. The infant teacher position requires a thorough understanding of The Vermont Early Learning Standards, developmental assessment tools (ASQ, ASQ-SE), and developmentally appropriate practice. Our program is committed to nature education and a love of the wild.

  • B.A./B.S. or A.A in Early Childhood preferred
  • C.D.A with 1 year minimum early childhood classroom/group teaching experience OR 2 years early childhood/group teaching experience and one course in child development given by an accredited institution completed within one year of hire.
  • Teaching experience must be with the specific age group of children the teacher will be working with.
  • Current certification in Pediatric First Aid AND Infant/Child CPR within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain visual and auditory supervision of the children at all times, in the classroom, outside or in any other settings.
  • Ability to lift, carry and hold children up to 50 lbs.
  • Physical ability to actively participate in all aspects and activities of the program.
  • Ability to communicate in both written and verbal forms on child development.
  • Provide criminal record check information and fingerprints.
