POSITION OVERVIEW

This role involves reading electric, gas, and water meters, along with performing minor maintenance on them. When not engaged in meter reading, the individual assists line crews with a variety of tasks and helps maintain and service the AMI system.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSExperience, Education, and Training
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing and submit to periodic drug testing as required by applicable laws.
  • May be required to work weekends or a variety of shifts.
  • Subject to emergency call-in.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must have no felony convictions.
  • Must have a valid Drivers' License.

FUNCTIONSEssential Functions
  1. Read electric, gas and water meters by routes.
  2. Meet and work with the public effectively and courteously.
  3. Answer customer questions and refer customer questions/complaints to appropriate person or department.
  4. Report damaged electric, gas or water meters to the appropriate supervisor.
  5. Report meters found that are in the computer system or discrepancies in status of accounts.
  6. Report unusual consumption, unauthorized usage or cut seals to the appropriate person or department.
  7. Perform work with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  8. Responsible for use, care and security of tools, vehicles, equipment and materials utilized.
  9. Train other personnel in job-related operations.
  10. Assist in resequencing of meter routes when needed.
  11. Report access problems to appropriate supervisor.
  12. Perform minor meter maintenance and repair duties.
  13. Perform Meter checks and verification to ensure AMI accuracy and reliability
  14. Trim trees and/or grinds brush.
  15. Assemble required materials, tools and equipment to start projects.
  16. Assist departments in after-hour emergencies.
  17. Assist construction crews as needed.
  18. Other duties as required.
