Title: Pediatric Med Surg Nurse

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care and professional practice in collaboration with members of the health care team and in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Assesses and evaluates patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered and applies sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
  • Provides direct, continuous, (where applicable), care for a specific caseload of patients through application of the nursing process based upon theory, research, and approved Department of Nursing and institutional standards.
  • Coordinates patient care activities, based on established priorities, including teaching, rounding, counselling, and discharge planning, and directs/delegates appropriately to members of the health care team.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, significant others, and members of the health care team about the patient's plan of care.
  • Participates in performance improvement, nursing quality, nursing research activities and utilizes same in clinical practice.
  • Accurately interprets and implements treatment regimen as prescribed by the Physician; assists the Physician during treatments and/or diagnostic procedures; keeps the Patient Care Manager/designee and/or physician, abreast of changes in patient’s condition and/or treatments, as appropriate; uses clinical judgment in delegating assignments in providing patient care, and ensures that assignments are completed in a timely fashion; performs grade I-IV Decubitus Care; performs preventive skin care measures; applies simple dressings, maintaining principles of aseptic technique.

Qualifications:

  • Currently registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • Current or past clinical experience preferred in acute Med/Surg/Peds Nursing with abilities to care for adult or geriatric patients with total joint/orthopaedic, general medical and general surgical conditions.
  • Demonstrated abilities to manage multiple priorities, organize the work load; includes critical thinking, delegation skills and respectful communication.
  • Experience in assessing the individual needs of the adult/geriatric or pediatric patients and developing appropriate written plans of care.
  • Current BLS Certification or able to complete within one month
  • Current ACLS Certification or able to complete within six months and maintain certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.
