Raba Kistner is seeking an enthusiastic Apprentice CoMET Technician to join our team in Sulphur, LA. The Apprentice CoMET Technician is responsible for conducting field or laboratory testing, sampling, and/or inspection services.

  • Contact dispatcher/coordinator for priorities and deadlines in both the field and laboratory.
  • Meet with contractor's supervisors, engineer/architect representatives or other project leaders on project sites to discuss and coordinate testing, sampling, or inspection of construction materials or construction procedures.
  • Ensure the safe utilization, storage and maintenance of all nuclear gauges.
  • Update supervisor and dispatcher on progress and delays on every project.
  • Ensure safe usage and maintenance of individually assigned company vehicle, field and laboratory equipment.
  • Meet established project deadlines.
  • Submit accurate and complete testing/inspection reports on a daily basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, G.E.D. preferred
  • Possess at least one current relevant industry certification, such as ACI Field, ACI Concrete Strength, ACI Aggregates, TxDOT SB101, SB102, SB103, SB201, SB202, 1A or 1B or other comparable industry certifications preferred. If no certifications are currently held, will be required to obtain at least one of the industry certifications as designated by supervisor with support of the firm, within six months of employment. Employment contingent upon meeting these requirements.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet company’s auto insurability requirements

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and understand instructions, labels, reports, etc. Good oral and written communication skills including the ability to write short correspondences, notes, letters and memos. Must be safety minded and willing to put safety first in performing all duties.

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, frequently required to stoop, kneel crouch or crawl, regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, talk, and drive vehicles short and/or long distances. Continuously required to use hands and reach. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, focus vision, depth vision. Work environment includes potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to follow implement and follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment. Regular use of non-complex machines and equipment and hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels and picks. Work assignments are frequently performed outside in all weather conditions.

This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs. Work responsibilities require out of town travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices and project locations.
