POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Dietitian is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the nutritional care of the resident in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, regulations and established facility policies and procedures. POSITION DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides registered dietitian services in one or more sites according to policies and procedures, and federal and state requirements.
- Plans, organizes, develops, and directs the individualized nutritional care of the resident in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
- Assesses/Monitors the residents’ nutritional status and provides recommendations to clinical/medical staff.
- Collaborates, develops, updates, and participates in nutritional care plans as needed.
- Observes resident meal service, food, and fluid intake to ensure diets are correct and modifications are followed.
- Educates and counsels residents, families and staff on nutritional concepts and diet modifications.
- Evaluate and select nutritional supplements as needed for residents.
- Works with other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure that modified texture or therapeutic diets are in compliance with the resident’s medical condition.
- Reviews menu changes to ensure compliance with the facility’s policy and procedures and state and federal guidelines.
- Updates diet orders and menu changes as required.
- Conducts quarterly and annual nutrition assessments.
- Conducts audits of relevant nutritional care on a routine basis.
- Completes nutritional assessments on residents on admission, readmission, quarterly, annually, and with any change in condition as per guidelines.
- Completes assigned sections in the Minimum Data Set (MDS) as per facility policy and procedure and ensures the accuracy of the information provided.
- Performs regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
- Monitors residents for weight changes, nutrition support, and skin breakdown, and makes recommendations as needed.
- Participates in inspection surveys, ensuring compliance with nutritional and dietary policies and procedures as per state and federal guidelines.
- Treats all residents with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents’ rights.
- Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
- Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents and themselves.
- Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
- Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to HR or compliance officer.
- Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.
- Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
- Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.
- Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
- Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
- As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.
- Keeps up to date with the latest nutrition research and trends.
- Attends morning meetings in person.
- Training and supervising of dietary staff.
- Address and resolve dietary-related complaints by residents and family members.
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from an accredited college or university. Required
- Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and licensed in Nutrition/Dietetics as required by the applicable state. Required
- Supervisory experience in a healthcare setting. Required
- Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Must work well with others, have effective training and supervisory skills, and be able to identify and address problems effectively.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
