Bighorn Airways is seeking individuals who want to work and live in the beautiful town of Sheridan, Wyoming. Sheridan is at the base of the Bighorn Mountains and offers the advantages of small-town living and great outdoor opportunities. One week each July the town is taken over by the WYO rodeo, with a variety of activities, parades and nightly rodeo performances. There are also numerous sports and activities for both children and adults, including soccer and ice hockey leagues, and summer programs for kids. Close-by communities where some of Bighorn employees live include Dayton, Ranchester, Parkman, Big Horn, Story, and Buffalo. All offer small-town living and have their own list of activities each year.  The larger cities of Billings and Casper are each 2 hours away. 

 

Bighorn Airways has been a leader in the Wyoming aviation community for over 70 years and has been conducting smokejumper and para cargo operations for over 30 years. Bighorn Airways is a diverse aviation company, operating aircraft on USG special operations contracts in Alaska and the Lower 48, as well as overseas.

 

We are looking for experienced pilots to join our team, this opportunity offers the opportunity to work with a wide variety of customers. We operate aircraft in the Rocky Mountain Regions of the Lower 48 as well as Alaska and overseas. The job entails flying large aircraft at slow speeds in mountainous terrain and remote areas. A strong background in low level flying, strong customer service skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work closely with others for an extended period of time is a must. Previous military or civilian leadership experience is desirable.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Bighorn Airways aircraft, loading and unloading of occupants and cargo.
  • The pilot is responsible for computing the weight and balance for all flights and for assuring that the gross weight and center of gravity do not exceed the aircraft's limitations. Pilots shall be responsible for the proper loading and securing of all cargo. Load calculations shall be computed and completed by the pilot.
  • Passenger Briefing - Before each takeoff, the PIC shall ensure that all passengers have been briefed in accordance with the briefing items contained in 14 CFR 135
  • Contracting Representative on scene for Bighorn Airways.
  • Supervision and development of the aircraft’s First Officer.
  • Coordinate with Bighorn Airways maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure all paperwork, i.e., Maintenance Endorsements, Flight and Duty records, receipts; etc. are complete and properly forwarded.
  • Responsible for creating positive morale objectives with Flight Operations staff and all other co-workers.
  • Maintain a clean safe work environment.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Perform aircraft piloting duties as per the GOM and as allowed in 14 CFR Part 135
  • Must be proficient in Rocky Mountain hot and high operations.
  • This employment opportunity requires a person who possesses strong customer service skills and an enthusiastic attitude.

Education and Experience:

  • ATP written.
  • Unrestricted ATP-ME minimums.
  • Ability to safely operate large aircraft in challenging conditions.

Preferred Experince:

  • 3,000 + Total Time
  • 500+ ME
  • Previous ground or aerial firefighting experience
  • 250 + PIC in large aircraft (greater than 12,500lbs)
  • Mountainous terrain experience
  • Low level flight experience less than 500’ AGL (not for the purposes of T/O or Landing)
  • Multi engine Turbine experience.
