Chaplain PRN

Chaplain PRN coverage is Saturday (an 8 or 12 hours shift) with opportunities to provide coverage for personnel using Time Off

Addresses the spiritual, religious and emotional needs of patients, families and Team Members.  Provides spiritual and religious care and emotional support to those in need at all organization locations. Travel between UM UCH facilities required.

Chaplain addresses the spiritual, religious and emotional needs of patients, families and Team Members.  Provides spiritual and religious care and emotional support to those in need at all organization locations. Travel between UM UCH facilities (Bel Air and Havre de Grace) required.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a ministry related theological/religious field from a college, university or seminary. Master’s Degree is preferred. General knowledge of psychology and advanced knowledge of theology, sacred scripture and various faith, religious and/or spiritual traditions is required. Ordination or the equivalent through a recognized faith group is preferred.

Training: Minimum two units of Clinical Pastoral Education is required. Four units is preferred. One Unit is equivalent to 300 clinical hours and 100 didactic hours. Certification as a Board Certified Chaplain is required within 24 months of date of hire.

Work Orientation & Experience: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing spiritual and religious care in a medical setting is preferred. Must have ecclesiastical/denominational endorsement as a chaplain.

Ability to; a) serve and address the needs of diverse faith, religious and/or spiritual traditions in a patient-family centric model of care; b) document in the EMR; c) be flexible, multi-task and prioritize work assignments; d) work independently; e) to build and sustain cooperative inter-personal relationships with clergy and volunteers and persons of varying faith, spiritual and cultural traditions; f) lead and coordinate prayer and religious ritual needs; h) interact effectively with people of all age ranges; i) to maintain and handle confidentiality issues with the utmost integrity and discretion.
