Position Summary:

The Associate R&D Transfer Engineer position performs equipment and process transfer from product development to production as well as improvements in equipment, tooling, and processes for ongoing production in support of the Development department's objectives to provide goods and services that meet customer’s requirements for quality, quantity, and timeliness. The position will have a mixture of direct support of customers and the operations team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support R&D efforts with assembly and engineering during product development to ensure process is suitable for manufacturing
  • Work with R&D in transferring projects to the Lake Zurich manufacturing facility
  • Support the transfer of products into production following transfer checklist
  • Coordinate production support of pilot production builds including materials and assembly labor to ensure builds stay on track and meet defined customer requirements
  • Development of manufacturing processes for acceptable throughput and yield to achieve cost targets applied during each phase of the project
  • Train assemblers on assembly procedures during the transfer phase and support process changes that originate beyond transfer
  • Train operations team in equipment and line start setups
  • Communicate with suppliers to address quality and delivery issues, create supplier quality agreements, and set up ongoing order schedules
  • Support process validation planning including process FMEA, master validation plans, IQ, OQ, PQ, TMV and software validation
  • Coordinate and execute IQ, OQ, PQ and TMV associated validation plans on projects
  • Coordination of design of custom equipment and fixtures to meet cost and throughput targets of manufactured products
  • Support design changes associated with pilot production and production products
  • Acquisition, setup, and installation qualification of new equipment, including creation of PM procedure as necessary
  • Support equipment maintenance, as appropriate per skills and knowledge, and support or perform equipment re-entry to production
  • Review of safety issues with equipment and processes and implementation of procedures and equipment modifications
  • Production line layout
  • Annual risk analysis and DMR updates

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Biomedical, Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering or relevant degree is required
  • Disposable design and development background, materials knowledge, and prototyping experience are preferred
  • 0-2 years of experience with sustaining and process engineering, contract manufacturing preferred
  • ISO experience, cGMP and ISO 13485 preferred

  • Ability to manage time and self to meet organizational objectives
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strength in problem-solving and decision making
  • High energy level, attention to detail, and a sense of urgency
  • Computer skills including MS Office, Solidworks, or alternative CAD program
  • General knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques
  • Skills with statistics, preferably experience with DOEs, Minitab
