The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is looking for a part time Pantry Supervisor to join our team. This position works in a warehouse environment collecting date, processing orders by picking and filling boxes/containers. He/she will supervise pantry volunteers and one other paid employee while keeping the pantry clean and safe at all times.  

The ideal candidate has experience working in an environment that can be cold and hot during different seasons. This person will need to be able to work safely and quickly, standing for long periods while fulfilling orders.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Inventory/Pantry Supervision - Assist in picking and packing products as ordered by the customer into boxes, and containers and putting them into vehicles.  Maintain a pantry inventory list and assist with restocking products and supplies as needed. Maintain thorough notes and paperwork. Review pantry protocols and suggest changes to ensure efficiency in the process.
  • Safety and housekeeping – Ensure a safe warehouse environment by keeping an organized work station, alerting supervisors of any concerns, and completing continuing education for safety and hazards. Review any complaints and notify the supervisor. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required
  • Prior experience working in customer service is preferred
  • Prior knowledge of administrative paperwork and computer experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with any business machines is preferred
  • Experience operating certain power equipment is a plus
  • Must be able to bend, stand reach, pull, lift and carry items in the pantry/warehouse

Job Description:
Title:                                       Lead Pantry Supervisor
For the Community Food Pantry of St. Joseph County located at the Food Bank of Northern Indiana   
Classification:                       Part Time, Non-Exempt, 25 hours per week
Reports to:                             Warehouse Manager
Salary Range:                        $14 to $16 per hour

Job Summary:
The Lead Pantry Coordinator acts as the first point of contact for the organization by assisting clients in the Pantry drive-through distribution area.  Responsibilities also include serving as the primary point person in the organization of the pantry and the operations of the pantry as well. Responsible for the supervision of the Pantry Assistant and volunteers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Greet clients as they arrive, ensure they provide proper documentation and check them in utilizing computer software.  Ensure all clients’ needs are met with respect, compassion, and dignity.
  2. Ensures proper food handling procedures are being followed by checking dates, stocking, storing, rotating, and checking temperature of coolers and freezers.
  3. Demonstrates a professional demeanor in all interactions with clients, volunteers, and colleagues.
  4. Works with volunteers that assist in the pantry and provide them with direction and ensure they have an excellent experience while volunteering.
  5. Oversees the overall function of the pantry and any interactions with the warehouse in coordination with the Warehouse Manager.
  6. Always maintains a clean work area with moderate to heavy cleaning duties.
  7. Creates flyers and signage for distribution through the Pantry.
  8. Conducts other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications for Education, Training and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Moderate to advanced computer and phone skills (Microsoft software applications) required.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Prior retail and customer service preferred but not required.
  • Ability to operate or learn how to operate an electric pallet jack.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.

Required Background, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Self-starter who is motivated and can anticipate what needs to be done and follow through until all work is satisfactorily completed.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups with a team approach and successful results.
  • Ability to be a strong team player, work independently and collaborate with others as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must have high integrity and a strong work ethic with an emphasis on consistent attendance.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain Serv-Safe Food Handlers certification.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions:
This position requires moderate physical work, must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, redistribution of handling of food is required.  Must be able to stand and/or walk on concrete floors as well as in areas of extreme hot or cold weather for extended periods of time.

Employment requires a negative drug screening, and successful background check.
