Emergency Department Nurses will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards. The Nurse functions both dependently and independently with guidance and direction from the Nurse Manager/designee. Nurses must have active, current license as a professional nurse in any state (United States.)
Pay-rate:
$48/hr
Job Duties:
· Agency nurses assigned to the Emergency Department can expect to work ten (10) or twelve (12) hours shifts or a combination with rotating weekends and holidays.
· The minimum requirement for all registered nurses assigned to the Emergency Department shall include a current unrestricted registered nurse license from any state (United States), a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association and a current Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support Course (ACLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
· Agency nurses are preferred to have the Certification of Emergency Nursing (CEN) through the Board of Certifications for Emergency Nurses (BCEN). Nurses with Acute/Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) certifications through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Certification Corporation (AACN) with ED experience will also be considered. current and (must have worked within the last six months)
· Assuming a patient care assignment for a group of patients (1:4/1:5 patient load)
· Assessment and care of patients with a wide range of physical and psychological diagnoses and with wide range of treatment modalities
· Care of patients undergoing operative/invasive procedures
· Care of patients requiring special precautions such as isolation
· Inserting and maintenance of peripheral lines
· Maintaining central lines for administration of intravenous fluid
· Providing emergency care as indicated
· Administration of medications (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenously) and blood products
· Complete and accurate documentation of care, in a timely manner, according to facility/unit policies
· Phlebotomy and bedside testing
· Psychological support of patients as indicated
· On-Call status may be required at the discretion of the Nurse Manager
· Insertion and troubleshooting of Urinary catheters
· Collaborates with physicians, residents, and ancillary staff in providing care to patients
· Initiates patient education, as prescribed by physician during discharge
· Display and promote professionalism and excellent customer service during interactions with patients and their families/caregivers
May be required to work with COVID 19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI), for COVID 19
Requirements:
  • All registered nurses shall have at least three (3) years recent prior experience in an emergency department or major trauma center emergency room with no more than a six-month gap working in that setting.
Education requirements:
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or in related field or a Master’s Degree in Nursing or in related field is highly preferred.
