Seeking Applicants who Maintains the campus as necessary. Under the general supervision of the Director of Physical Plant to perform skilled work in the areas of painting, carpentry and general maintenance; perform routine maintenance work; and complete related work as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Painter
- Use brush or spray gun in applying all types of paint products or other productive or decorative finishes to all types of surfaces, including buildings and furniture.
- Scrape, sand, fill, plaster, or in some manner prepare surfaces for painting and repairing.
- Match, blend, harmonize and contrast colors.
- Size and tint plaster walls and other surfaces.
- Refinish and repair furniture and other equipment.
- Stain, paint lacquer and varnish cabinets, desks and other furniture.
- Erect, rig or move scaffolding and platforms.
- Clean brushes, tools and other equipment.
- Paint signs.
Carpenter
- Construct, install and finish all types of cabinets and structures.
- Install molding and other wood articles.
- Install hardware on cabinets, including handles, hinges, locks, catches and stops.
- Repair cabinets, desks and equipment.
- Make and repair wood sash.
- Operate all kinds of woodworking, machinery and maintain in good order.
- Frame walls, ceiling and floors.
- Install various wall and ceiling covering such as sheetrock and ceiling tiles, and floor covering such as asphalt, vinyl tile, carpeting and sheet goods.
NONESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Alter, repair or construct articles and structures of wood such as partitions, walls, counters, door, floors, roofs, window frames, and cabinets, working from oral instructions, sketches and/or blueprints.
- Maintain and repair woodwork of buildings.
- Build and/or repair closets, cases and shelving.
- Fit doors, windows, sashes and screens.
- Operate lathes, planes, band saws and other woodworking machinery.
- Sharpen tools and assure that tools and equipment are properly cared for.
- Install equipment.
- Repair door closer.
- Install and replace hinges, catches and other hardware.
- Order materials, supplies and equipment needed for jobs.
- Maintain required records and make reports.
- Plan and prioritize work orders.
- Communicate clearly and effectively.
- Assist in snow removal
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum five years of experience in the field of painting and carpentry.
- Ability to work within the overall organization of the Physical Plant and to work collaboratively with skilled and unskilled personnel
- Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and demonstrate ability to express ideas effectively and concisely Must demonstrate compliance with all required safety policies and procedures
- Must be willing to seek training to enhance or learn new skills
- Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing mission of the College.
- Must be willing to work a rotating On-Call schedule that will include weekends and Holidays
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver license.
Knowledge of:
- Principles, procedures, skills, tools and material used in the trade.
- Uses and purposes of general maintenance tools and equipment.
- Applicable codes, rules and regulations pertaining to trade.
- Basic first aid
Ability to:
- Perform skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in the area assigned.
- Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and equipment.
- Work independently in the absence of supervisor
- Operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate precisely in both orally and writing.
- Exercise safe driving practices and maintain a safe driving record.
