Position Summary:

Assists to organize, direct and supervise all functions and personnel (resident assistants and medication technicians) in the Health & Wellness Department. Responsible for the optimum social, health and welfare functioning of all residents. In order to perform as the Shift Supervisor, the individual must be able to successfully perform all of the duties and responsibilities of a certified medication technician and a resident assistant. This includes but is not limited to: Administering medications to residents as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations; responsible for supervising CMTs, CNAs and RAs in addition to providing high-quality care to residents and to ensures individual resident needs are met, assists with direct care, promptly reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor, and maintains comfort, privacy, and dignity of our residents.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Administers medications and treatment as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with community policy.
  • Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately, utilizing the computer system to enter and reference resident information as needed.
  • Coordinates, directs, monitors and supervises CMTs/CNAs/RAs and ensures quality care is provided to residents in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and individuality.
  • Assists with training and mentoring new hires
  • Works in conjunction with the Health & Wellness Coordinator to prioritize, delegate, and assign tasks, duties and responsibilities to all staff working on the shift.
  • Completes rounds at the beginning and end of the shift, and scheduled wellness checks in keeping with departmental policies to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
  • Motivates staff, supports management, educate staff as needed and leads by example.
  • Responsible for receiving change of shift report from outgoing shift supervisor at the beginning of the shift/Providing change of shift report to incoming shift supervisor at the end of the shift.
  • Is accountable for the distribution and collection of keys and staff communication devices.
  • Responsible for the oversight of any new employees in training and/or agency employees on the shift
  • Ensures residents shower and laundry schedules are maintained by care staff.
  • Responsible for calling 911 in an emergency and ensuring that the relevant paperwork is provided to the EMS.
  • Understands resident’s plan of care, contributes to the care planning process by providing specific information/observations of residents’ needs and preferences
  • Observe residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly report these changes to the supervisor.
  • Promptly answers and courteously respond to residents’ pages and alarms and ensures that all CMTs/CNAs/RAs on the shift do the same.
  • Completes the 24-hour communication sheet and other records documenting care or other information in keeping with departmental policies.
  • Fully understands all aspects of residents’ rights, and promptly reports incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violations of residents’ rights to supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment and report environmental deficiencies such as lighting or equipment problems to the supervisor.
  • Protects residents’ personal belongings, and immediately reports lost, missing, or stolen items per established policies and procedures. Participates in efforts to locate items.
  • Communicates and interacts respectfully, effectively, and tactfully with residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Participates in daily wellness staff huddles, monthly departmental meetings, and in-service trainings.
  • May be called upon to cover an assignment as a Certified Nursing Assistant/Resident Assistant when there is a call out or no-show and/or when the need arises.
  • May be called upon to work an additional shift to cover a call out to ensure appropriate staffing levels
  • Assists in orientation and training of employees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have the ability to work well with others. Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds per person in a two-person lift. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a certified medication technician with DHS regulations compliance. Must have the ability to supervise others.
