The Role
City & State is seeking an Associate Editor to serve as a primary copy editor and magazine proofreader for City & State New York. You will copy-edit Power Lists for the brand, and proof magazine pages before they go to press. As Associate Editor, you will also play an important role in editing and sending City & State’s newsletters, which will require early morning work. There will also be occasional story or Q&A editing and some administrative work, such as gathering photos.
Responsibilities
- Copy editing our popular Power Lists that recognize 50-100 political power brokers each week
- Proofing our magazine pages for any style, grammatical or other errors, in addition to writing photo captions and pull quotes
- Editing and sending our First Read Tonight newsletter, or potentially editing and sending our three morning newsletters as needed
- Occasional story editing
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and be able to catch mistakes that others might miss
- In-depth knowledge of Associated Press style
- Knowledge of general journalistic practices and ethics
- Experience in copy editing, story editing, and working with Adobe InCopy is a plus
