The Lead for Welding/Fabrication (1st shift) is responsible for fabrication of metal products, utilizing a combination of machines in the Fabrication Department. Processes can include: Laser, Press Brake, Spot weld, Machining, Shear, Robotic Welding, Manual MIG Welding (both fixture and layout), and other machines that may be added depending on opportunities. The Lead will actively weld and produce parts, including run, program, train, schedule, monitor in-process work and inventory. The Lead Position will require customer interaction, develop and direct team members and work closely with other departments.

· Schedule daily tasks for fabrication employees

· Set up, program, run and maintain all equipment in the fabrication area

. Works closely with production supervisor regarding people, production, and equipment, opportunities and issues.

· Read blueprints/drawings and job routings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures. Determines the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements

· Weld components/parts by operating MIG/Robotic welders and Spot/resistance welders in accordance with set up sheet/drawing specifications

· Produces complex welded assemblies to close tolerances according to engineering requirements

· Trained on and utilizes all quality inspection instruments and ensures operators are following all quality documentation

· Always maintain safety in the department and personally adhere to all safety standards and regulations

· Help trouble shoot all pieces of equipment in the department

· Manage the weld certification process for each employee

· Lead the department in training, auditing, organization, and preventive maintenance

· Oversees new product development launches in Fabrication area and helps develop prototypes


Requirements:

Education - High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical degree or schooling preferred

Experience and/or Training - Minimum 3-years relevant manufacturing/welding experience preferred

Licenses/Certificates – AWS D1.1 certification, Forklift preferred.


Basic reading, writing and math skills. Working knowledge of blueprint reading. Ability to read measurements in metric and traditional scale. Attention to detail is required. Problem solving skills. Solid leadership and communication skills.

This position requires standing, walking, lifting, bending at the waist, and crouching. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly from floor level to waist level and back to move materials and finished product around the work area. Requires reaching out with arms and using hands to grasp, move and hold objects in place while welding and to maneuver parts in and out of welding fixtures. Job also requires use of protective safety equipment, including, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, welding helmets and protective arm coverings.
