Job Description

POSITION IDENTIFICATION: 

Reports to: Event Team Lead

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

Under the Manager, the Paramedic (“employee”) will perform duties associated with providing medical and first aid services and emergency medical care to the sick and injured in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations and EMS Unlimited policies.

This position is for PRN, fill-in on ambulance standby to special events, primarily Horse Polo in Garfield and Pitkin counties

COMPENSATION:

$37.50 per hour - Minimum 6 hours pay per day worked, regardless of actual time on shift. 

SCHEDULE:

July 5th - September 5th

  • Varying day/time shifts, 6 day's per week available
  • Choose day's to work that best suite your schedule

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The employee must possess and apply knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of an Emergency Medical Technician and Rescuer, in a dignified and compassionate manner, including but not limited to:

    • Must be capable of performing all duties autonomously and in the austere. It is not uncommon for EMS Unlimited staff to be staged at assigned aid station locations where they are the sole medical provider;

    • Responding to emergency and non-emergency requests calmly, efficiently and promptly;

    • Administering basic  life support to patients at the scene, in a prehospital/pre-transport setting in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards;

    • Assessing the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed;

    • Maintaining order at scenes, including crowd disbursement and restraint of family and friends; 

    • Completing patient care forms, insurance forms, evaluation forms, and all other forms in a competent and timely fashion;

    • Conducting medical equipment inventory;

    • Cleaning, organizing and restocking supplies in a ready condition after each use;

    • Responding to requests for emergency and non-emergency medical care at events and other duties related to assisting event staff with general tasks that support the event;

    • Maintaining accurate records of request for emergent and non-emergent first aid and medical care. Properly document each customer/patient interaction on the approved Patient Care Report in accordance with policies and procedures;

    • Handling radio communications professionally and efficiently with careful regard to the divulgence of information respecting confidentiality requests at all times;

    • Work cooperatively with assisting agencies. This may include, but is not limited to; Event Staff, Volunteers, security teams, EMS Transport agencies, event participants and spectators. Be nice, professional, courteous and an all around happy and pleasant person. 

    • Other duties as assigned, including assisting the Event Team Leader with coordination of various events.

  • The employee must perform all job responsibilities in a manner that protects patient privacy:

    • The employee is expected to protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with EMS Unlimited Privacy Policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal (and state) law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a healthcare provider. Failure to comply with policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination or employment.

    • The employee may access protected health information and other patient information only to the extent that is necessary to complete your job duties. The employee may only share such information with those you have a need to know specific patient information you have in your possession to complete their job responsibilities related to treatment, payment or other company operations.

    • The employee is encouraged and expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding policies and procedures on patient privacy and any observed practices in violation of that policy to the designated Privacy Officer.

    • The employee is expected to actively participate in Company privacy training and is required to communicate privacy policy information to co-workers, students, patients and others in accordance with Company Policy.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

  • The employee must have a minimum of either a high school diploma or a GED as evidence of completion of a high school education, and must have and maintain a current state healthcare license at the level for which hired. 

  • 2 years of field EMS experience is preferred. 

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

  • The employee must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, current state Paramedic, RN certification and CPR.
  • FEMA ICS training 100 and 700 is required
  • Additional certifications preferred: PHTLS, ATLS, PALS, EPC, AMLS, Hazmat, Wilderness
  • Preferred skills: Hiking, Mountain biking, snowmobiling
