Safety and Quality Engineer

Position Overview
The Safety and Quality Engineer is responsible for providing technical data driven support to the Safety team, as well as being knowledgeable and up to date on safety, health, environmental and quality policies, and procedures in the work environments. With limited supervision, performs a variety of analytical, technical, training, administrative and audit responsibilities for the corporate Safety and Quality Department.
Primary Responsibilities
• Prepares trend analysis of safety and quality incidents and associated root causes
• Maintains, updates and audits company safety injury and quality incident data bases
• Responsible for maintenance and overall accuracy of company injury/illness logs
• Prepares presentations and dashboards of safety and quality information
• Tracks leading and lagging S&Q metrics, including maturity path results and progress
• Coordinates with HR on tracking S&Q-related training needs, status, and reports through LMS.
• Coordinates safety, quality and leadership training, materials, and sessions
• Participates in leadership and safety training, as needed
• Visit work sites and branches, as needed for training and information validation.
• Maintains, updates, and distributes safety and quality policies, procedures, and documentation; provides this information to company personnel or external sources as requested
• Compose correspondence to company personnel and external agencies as required
• Answers phones, emails, and refers same to appropriate personnel or provides requested information
• Maintains confidentiality related to environmental, safety, and quality issues
• Provides administrative support for corporate Safety and Quality Director and department members
• Performs other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications
• Basic working safety knowledge of safety compliance requirements and prevention methods
• Data analysis and root cause determinations and methods
• Demonstrated, working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, CALOSHA, MSHA regulations
• Knowledgeable in data analysis methods, data displays and graphing (such as six sigma, excel, minitab). Six sigma or equivalent training or certification a plus
• Ability to analyze complex problems, draw relevant conclusions and implement appropriate solutions
• Demonstrate flexibility to effectively deal with changing priorities and timelines through analytical problem solving
• Proven time management and follow-through skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks with tight deadlines
• Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team-oriented environment
• Display superior professional, written, oral communication skills and effective listening skills
• Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
• Demonstrates strong work ethic and integrity, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
• Ability to teach, mentor, and lead in various group settings
• Ability to make quick decisions and commit to a clear course of action
• Ability to identify key issues and relationships relevant to achieving long range goals or vision
• Strong, inherent ability and drive to negotiate terms of agreement for project work, budget and fund recovery in the project’s best interest
• Positive disposition, professional bearing and excited to work in a diverse team environment
Education and/or Experience
• 6-8 years safety support or related administrative experience required
• 2+ years’ experience in a construction or related safety, environment field or related certifications
• Associates degree in related field preferred
• Proficient in MS Office suite and Survey monkey
• Periodic travel to job sites and other venues. Valid CA Driver License and good driving record
