Position Title: Construction Inspector II working with Bureau of Indian Education (BIE)
Location: Remote with some travel throughout the United States
Salary Range: $70,000 to $90,000 DOE
Period of Performance: 5 years

This role is contingent upon award.
Project/Position Overview: BIE school operations need to supplement existing federal staff to ensure the timely completion of authorized work with proper oversight. Designated personnel must be able to perform onsite inspections and evaluations of quarters units that are located throughout the United States to determine the actual condition of existing buildings; their functional adequacy; compliance to code requirements, including life safety, health, handicap, energy conservation; and examine existing facilities, utilities and sites for renovation, reuse, or functional modifications.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of residential building design criteria and construction guide specifications best practices.
- Calculate construction costs for changes, price the value of needed work, and provide recommendations for adjustments.
- Monitor and review contractor activities and submissions for completeness and accuracy.
- Ability to identify critical and long lead-time materials and procurement strategies to prevent a negative impact on quality, cost, and schedule.
- Tasks can include coordinating with others including IT, mechanical, plumbing, existing solar panels, and electrical.
- Inspect conditions of all assigned government buildings and provide recommendations for maintenance/repair work.
- Attend pre-construction meetings and serve as a technical resource. Maintain records including correspondence, contract documents, change orders, etc.
- Monitor construction schedules on an ongoing basis and report any conditions that may lead to a delay in the completion of work.
- Review the results of construction testing and inspection and report findings.
- Create and maintain a Punch List and assist in reviewing shop drawings, design drawings, and product data.
- Review pay applications and ensure there is a percentage of completion for each project.
- Recommend the date of Substantial Completion.
Education, Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in architecture, engineering, construction management or related field preferred.
- 4+ years construction industry or residential inspection experience preferred.
- Minimum of OSHA 30-hour construction safety training required.
- Knowledge of construction scheduling methods and familiarity with the use of scheduling software. Provide the agenda and minutes for all project meetings.
- Knowledge and understanding of submitting RFI's.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, schedules, and other specifications.
- Written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills with a diverse range of individuals.
- Proficiency in computer software programs such as MS Office Suite, Adobe Professional, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and RS Means/CostWorks.
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must have the agility and dexterity to perform required duties involving moderate walking over rough, uneven, or slippery surfaces while bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders or similar activities and may lift objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
