Canacre works on large-scale wind and solar power projects, high-voltage transmission lines, pipeline projects, municipal roads projects, and groupings of cellular towers and rooftop antennas.

CANACRE is seeking a Safety Specialist. This position offers the opportunity to be part of a team that supports all aspects of organizational Safety. The Safety Specialist, in coordination with various organizational leaders and projects management teams, seeks to continually monitor and improve safety, professionalism, and the company’s philosophy / brand by helping oversee company safety program for the purpose of meeting the Company and regulatory processes, procedures, rules, and regulations for safe work practices in any area where field activities are being performed. This position is based in The Woodlands or Houston, TX but travel will be required to CANACRE offices and/or field work in the US and Canada.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SAFETY
- Oversee the management of CANACRE’s safety program and policies
- Contribute to CANACRE’s safety strategy
- Assess and determine appropriate levels of Personal Protective Equipment for each
- geographic location; order and distribute said equipment as necessary.
- Maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) inventory for new employees
- Facilitate New Hire Orientation for all employees
- Reporting and tracking of orientations, training, audits, incident reports, and other related
- documents
- Coordinate and help run safety events and meetings as directed by Senior leadership
- Assist in communications and presentations for Safety Committee, leadership, and company
- communications to enhance the development of safety initiatives
- Complete monthly / quarterly safety metrics
- Prepare meeting notes, presentations, memorandums, proposals, and correspondence
- Perform other duties as requested by leadership
- Review and understand regulatory requirements for work conducted
- Review and understand all project specific safety requirements, customer safety
- requirements and verifies / ensures compliance at project sites.
- Perform and document site visits to ensure compliance with CANACRE programs and policies.
- Communicate with customer safety representatives.
- Assists in completing accident and incident investigations and management.
- Creates, reviews, and updates project specific safety plans.
- Maintain vendor vetting system requirements for clients.
Perform other duties as required.
PHYSICAL- Physically capable of moving about on construction work sites
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, sit, or drive for extended periods
- Must be able to read documents, use a computer, communicate verbally and in writing
- Mobility required within an office, warehouse, and construction site environments
- Capable of lifting to 50lbs
- Work is generally performed in a typical indoor office environment
- Work will periodically be performed outside in all weather conditions year-round.
- Occasionally work is performed in active construction sites with possible exposure to wet
- and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is occasionally moderate to loud.
- May be called upon to work various shift configurations based on work schedules and
- emergency response. This may include nights and or weekends.
- Travel required: Up to 20%
- Graduation from high school or GED; 2-year or 4-year degree a plus
- Minimum 2 years of professional level experience in workplace safety programs preferred · Experience or working knowledge of large-scale utility projects is a plus · Experience or working knowledge of environment and land consulting services is a plus
- Knowledge and understanding of safe worksite practices
- Familiarity with OSHA, OH&S, State/Province, local and company safety directives and work to continually expand that knowledge
- Experience using basic communication and tech devices
- Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interact with the public, contractor representatives, and customers
- Strong organizational and self-motivation skills to be able to handle many varied tasks at once in a fast-paced environment
- Current OSHA 30 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within 30 days of start of employment
- Valid driver’s license
