Job Title: Utility Operator

Department: Manufacturing

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY

Operates a variety of equipment to produce, assemble, pack, or transport product through the operation while working safely, producing quality, delivering parts on time, and meeting cost requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Effectively operates hand tools and machines across three or more of our core areas.
  • Coordinate and plan daily/weekly work schedule with supervisor, addressing any issues or concerns.
  • Prepares work to be accomplished by studying assembly instructions, drawing specifications, and parts lists; gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
  • Competent in measuring parts, reading drawings, and verifying specifications with precise measuring tools in English and Metric units.
  • Keeps equipment operational by following job instructions and completing routine maintenance.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Accurately record production data such as: quality, labor reporting, time, scrap, and downtime information.
  • Contributes and collaborates with team members to accomplish shared, company goals.
  • Identifies quality issues such as cosmetic or functional defects and assists with problem solving.
  • Expedites parts and components as necessary and works at or above standard rates for all jobs.
  • Setup, run, basic troubleshooting, and potentially program equipment.
  • Must have dependable and on time attendance.
  • Ability to perform well in fast paced environment with sense of urgency to meet scheduled daily goals.
  • Identify/Improve areas in reducing scrap/waste, improving costs and lead times.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills required normally acquired through high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, machinery and drawing reading through 1-3 years of manufacturing experience, with acute attention to detail.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery, hand tools, and computers.
  • Observance and adherence to company policies
  • Ability to safely operate a hand jack and various machines.
  • Ability to obtain certification and safely operate a forklift (preferred, not required in all areas).
  • Desire to learn new skills and improve technical knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and lead personnel to complete production requirements to service the customer.
  • Strong teamwork orientation; willing to train or assist other, less experienced operators.
  • Punctual and dependable, placing high priority on producing throughout scheduled hours and excellent attendance

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to feel or handle; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to twist, stoop, walk, and carry within the following parameters. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds.
  • Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, protective shoes/boots. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
  • Employees must demonstrate physical ability to work in a standing position, between 8-12 hours per day.
