Harrison Steel is looking for individuals to operate their electric arc furnaces (melters). Melters operate and maintain our 20-ton electric arc furnaces and direct the process to melt and refine steel to customers' specifications. Each 'heat' (batch) of liquid steel starts as solid steel recycling and takes approximately 3 hours to liquefy and refine. This position must have availability of any shift, and be flexible to move on different shifts with notice.

Melters:

  • Operate electric arc furnaces safely and following work instructions and specification requirements
  • Fill out a melting log and summary sheet for each heat of steel melted
  • Check and monitor all furnace and auxiliary equipment to insure they are in good physical, mechanical, and electrical operating condition

Ideal Melters have:

  • Experience in a heavy industrial environment operating machines
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications
  • Mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide on the fly
  • Ability to make quick decisions and monitor the safety of the environment and all others working in the area
