Trystar’s team members are our most important asset, and we are in search of an Electrical Controls Designer who will be instrumental in helping our Electrical Engineering design team to meet/exceed customer expectations and achieve strategic and aspirational growth plans while following our values & guiding principles. Primary responsibilities will be power and control circuit design, product development, and application engineering. This role is based in Troy, MI.

In this role you will get to:
  • Produce and edit electrical drawings for 480V power and 24V controls, including, but not limited to:
    1. PLC, I/O, and network distribution design
    2. Circuit designs that meet NFPA and NEC standards
    3. One-line and three-line drawings for production and submittals
    4. Panel layouts
  • Develop new and improve existing product design to achieve significantly greater speed, scale, and accuracy.
  • Review customer specifications and work with the engineering team to deliver products that meet and exceed customer expectations for order fulfillment.
  • Facilitate daily support of manufacturing/production efforts and challenges.
  • Vet new opportunities and recommend product changes/improvements to enhance product manufacturability and/or reduce cost.

Job Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of electrical controls design in a manufacturing environment (private, public, government, or military)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, OR AutoCAD (or equivalent) certification, OR 2 years’ experience in AutoCAD (or equivalent)

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communications skills (oral, written and presentation), with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to adapt & thrive in a fast-paced/high growth work environment.
  • Proficiency with major ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and CAD systems
  • A reasonable knowledge of PLC and/or embedded software programming is a plus.
  • Knowledge of low voltage power systems, electrical equipment upgrades, arc flash hazards analysis, switchgear, motor control centers, drives, lighting, emergency power and power distribution equipment is desired.
  • Familiarity with compliance & safety driven design implications. Particularly, UL, ETL, IEEE, NEC, and NFPA 70E.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
