Summary

Helps develop a new Youth Mental Health Initiative and serves as the Department’s Licensed Adolescent Psychotherapist, providing intakes, assessments, and individual and group services to pre-teens and adolescents. Supports parents with skills and strategies to understand and manage their children’s concerns. Must have expertise in adolescent development and serve as the subject-matter consultant for the Department to ensure youth services and programs are therapeutically sound and trauma-informed. The Licensed Adolescent Psychotherapist is a clinical position working out of childcare and residential settings and collaborates frequently with health and childcare providers, case managers, and residential staff. Has a clinical license that is in good standing and provides clinical supervision to clinical team members (e.g. MSW, PCC, PSy) and advanced practice students.


Essential Functions

  • Helps create policies, procedures, and structure for a new initiative serving unhoused youth.
  • Creates/revises and implements mental health group curriculum.
  • Engages youth in a compassionate, non-judgmental approach through support groups, building community and a sense of empowerment.
  • Provides direct clinical services including psychoeducation, social-emotional support, and various modalities of psychotherapy to clients ages 12-17, with the main focus on adolescent development.
  • Uses expertise to deliver/guide mental and behavioral health services to clients with mental/ behavioral health conditions and/or trauma histories.
  • Maintains a caseload of individual, and group clients, assessing, diagnosing, and developing treatment plans as needed.
  • Provides clinical perspective and supports staff in their work with youth and families.
  • Assesses and provides crisis intervention to clients.
  • Facilitates students’ internships with partner universities. Oversees training; assigns tasks and monitors performance; facilitates Intern evaluations; helps engage, support, and retain high-performing, accountable internship participants.
  • Communicates regularly with the Director of Social Services concerning department, program, and client issues.
  • Partners with Father Joe’s Villages’ Behavioral Health clinic to facilitate clients’ service delivery and make appropriate referrals.
  • Documents each patient’s visit in the electronic health record and monitors Interns’ data and outcomes.
  • Provides clinical supervision for clinical staff.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Professional Clinical Counseling, or Social Work (with experience in adolescent development and family therapy).
  • Certified and licensed to practice in California. The license must be in good standing.
  • Clinical knowledge of substance abuse, mental health, trauma-informed care, and systemic understanding of homelessness.
  • Ability to supervise students in field practice.
  • At least 3 years of experience providing clinical supervision.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a MUST.
  • Intermediate user of MS Office.
  • Ability to pass fingerprinting and background checks upon employment.
  • Annual Tuberculosis screening and/or other screenings when necessary.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be granted where appropriate.
