Job Title: Engineering Support Technician

Department: Engineering

Accountability: This position reports to the Engineering Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Create technical drawings, manufacturing schematics, and 2D/3D digital models of mechanical equipment designs.
  • Provide production and quality support, including MRR CAPA resolution and verifying Bills of Material in the ERP system.
  • Prepare component and assembly detail drawings for release to the supply base for fabrication.
  • Support prototype and production builds with hands-on support, including troubleshooting installation problems by phone or in person.
  • Write and maintain simple line art instructions and detailed installation guides focusing on accuracy and ease of use.
  • Travel to work sites of major customers to demonstrate installation techniques and provide training when requested.
  • Assist with special projects and work with Marketing to review website information and collateral.
  • Take photographs and document them, ensuring proper file naming and folder management.
  • Maintain Vehicle Application Guide and support company technical initiatives (e.g., ISO compliance).
  • Communicate with manufacturing personnel to create detailed layouts before production and assist in designing, creating, and testing production fixtures.
  • Work with engineers to perform validation testing and ensure designs meet all functional and structural product requirements.
  • Support engineering team by creating technical drawings and digital models within deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in Drafting or a related field; Professional certification is a plus.
  • 1-3 years of design experience in a solid-modeling based CAD system is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensions & Tolerances), DFM (Design for Manufacturability), and DFA (Design for Assembly).
  • Work experience and/or knowledge of manufacturing processes like sheet metal fabrication, machining & turning, injection molding, die casting, painting & plating, and assembly.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to solve complex problems with many variables.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) on a Windows-based OS.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, operating systems, and ERP database tools.
  • Manual dexterity, experience in auto install applications, and proficiency in the use of hand tools.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey information clearly.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25lbs and occasionally up to 50lbs.
  • Corrected 20/20 vision.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, maintain established policies and procedures, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • Majority of time spent in the Engineering Office with occasional time on the Production/Shop Floor.
  • Exposure to chemicals (See SDS), equipment, dust, paint, and noise.
  • Use of protective clothing and equipment may be required.
