About the role:


Blue Stream Fiber is looking for a Systems Engineer that works well in a fast paced, team/cross-team environment to design, implement, improve, and maintain various systems and technology products in our environment.

Responsibilities for this role:

  • Works in a team environment and individually on systems-level projects assessing specifications, performance requirements, security, and network needs. Provide feedback and recommendations based on the information gathered.
  • Works with internal teams and vendors to gather requirements and pricing information for budgeting projects.
  • Reviews and modifies existing systems software to improve performance, correct errors, and conform with security policies and compatibility requirements of available hardware.
  • Coordinates, designs, and implements new software systems to meet business needs.
  • Creates documentation around new designed/implemented systems and existing systems,
  • Reviews and makes improvements to existing systems where applicable and keeps firmware and systems updated on a regular patch cadence.
  • Performs Capacity and performance monitoring and planning.
  • Coordinates implementations, changes, and maintenance of systems. Submit change advisory board (CAB) forms and attend CAB meetings to discuss approval.
  • Trains, or provides training documentation to, users on new or modified systems and networks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer and Information Sciences, Engineering, Computer Software Engineering, Computer Engineering Technologies, or related field required.
  • At least one year of helpdesk experience
  • At least two years in an IT Tech Support position
  • IT trainings preferred.
  • Certifications in Network +, Security +, VMware VCP, Microsoft and Linux are preferred.
  • LAN/WAN-related certification preferred.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong systems design, troubleshooting and management skills with Linux and Windows Operating Systems
  • Proficiency in working with PON equipment.
  • Experience with containers such as VMware Tanzu, Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • VMware vSphere, Hosts, Clusters, HA, DRS, NSX experience
  • Experience with syslog products such as Elk Stack, Graylog, Log Insight and Splunk
  • Experience with Databases such as MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.
  • Familiarity with disk RAID and shared storage arrays and technologies i.e. NFS, Fiber Channel, ISCSI.
  • Thorough understanding of computer engineering principles and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of networking concepts, OSI model and troubleshooting.
  • Thorough understanding of systems and network security concepts and server hardening
  • Experience with Veeam Backup, Veeam One, SolarWinds, PowerShell and Python
  • Strong Microsoft 365 skills.
  • Knowledge of Windows/Server 2012-19, Windows 10 Pro, Active Directory, and protocols such as DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, FTP, HTTP.
  • Nights/weekends and holidays as demands of the business and position may be required.
