The ultimate goal of the educational program at Endazhi-Nitaawiging is to create a school where our students can see themselves in all that they are learning. POSITION TITLE

Cultural Knowledge Keeper


POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Head of School, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Ojibwe Cultural Knowledge Keeper to join our team. The Ojibwe Cultural Knowledge Keeper will play a vital role in ensuring the Ojibwe culture is being transferred to the students and staff within the school community. The ideal candidate should be a knowledge keeper of Ojibwe traditions, Red Lake culture, educator of traditional seasonal activities of Anishinaabe and experience in land-based knowledge.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Share and teach the seasonal culture activities to students and staff.
  • Support teachers in Ojibwe culture learning activities, lesson plans, curriculum development, etc.
  • Work closely and effectively with youth, families, and elders.
  • Ability to work in small groups or one-on-one for Ojibwe culture learning activities.
  • Provide Ojibwe seven teachings and values throughout the school community.
  • Develop a culture calendar for the school year and surrounding community of events.
  • Work with school staff on cultural knowledge learning for the purpose of increasing cultural knowledge and retention.
  • Participate in staff development, staff meetings, and cultural planning activities as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and experience working with students and community.
  • Be punctual and professional in all job-related activities.
  • Ability to organize and maintain records relating to job duties.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Strong skills in oral and written communication, including collaboration, leadership, and mentoring.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with staff, partners, volunteers, parents, and others.
  • Ability to travel in and out of state, obtain a valid MN driver’s license, and obtain current auto insurance.
