Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II is responsible for delivering patient care in complex, multiple-problem patient care situations. The majority of the time is spent in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision-making, and self-direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II is responsible for patient, family/support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self-developmental activities. The RT II is responsible for providing patient care with an understanding and awareness of population-specific needs.
Responsibilities:
- Administer medications and implement respiratory care based on expanded knowledge and experience.
- Deliver patient care in complex, multiple-problem patient care situations, primarily in critical care areas.
- Manage protocol ventilator settings and make significant independent decisions regarding patient care.
- Educate patients and their families/support systems about respiratory care and related topics.
- Coordinate activities related to respiratory care and ensure proper documentation.
- Participate in staff development and professional and self-development activities.
- Provide patient care with an understanding and awareness of population-specific needs.
Qualifications:
- Active Respiratory Therapist certification.
- Experience in critical care areas and with protocol ventilator management.
- Ability to make independent decisions and demonstrate self-direction.
- Strong knowledge and skills in respiratory care practices.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Commitment to professional and self-development.
