Job DescriptionJob Description
Encompass Health Altoona is currently seeking a full-time Diet Technician to join its Nutrition Services team. The Diet Technician conducts screenings and gathers information for patient assessments to be completed by the Registered Dietitian. The position provides dietary education to patients and family members, completes follow up documentation as directed by the Dietitian and may provide in-service education to hospital staff. The Technician works directly with patients and their families, including meeting with them to discuss food options. They are a Nutrition Ambassador for the hospital.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR) or (DTR) eligible preferred; We are willing to assist applicant in obtaining credential.
  • Serve Safe preferred; We are willing to assist applicant in obtaining certification.
  • Associate's degree or related education.
  • One-year relevant nutrition services experience preferred, not required. New graduates encouraged to apply
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, JCAHO and other applicable regulations a plus.
Equipment Used:
  • General office equipment such as computer/laptop, telephone, copy/fax machine, calculator, scanner, etc.
  • Microsoft Office software, to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Applicable equipment and machines in the Nutrition Services department.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Competent in using computer systems. Must be accurate in documenting patient menu information.
  • Oral communication, written communication, and active listening.
  • Information ordering, deductive reasoning, social perceptiveness, time management, critical thinking.
  • Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.
  • Ability to work independently without continuous supervision.
